O Partido dos Panteras Negras, de Oakland-California, surgiu no final de 1966 em prol de defender a comunidade negra que sofria pelo racismo e o abuso da força policial naquela época. Munidos por armas de fogo, jaquetas de couro e amparados por uma lei estadual (que dizia que todo cidadão cuja integridade física fosse ameaçada poderia portar uma arma de fogo e empregar o uso da força), os Pantera
s Negras patrulhavam suas comunidades e as ofereciam suporte; roupas e alimentação. Huey Newton, o fundador deste partido político-social de esquerda, foi agredido e preso após ter executado um policial e ferido outro num intenso tiroteio com a polícia de Oakland. Newton, sobre sua prisão, declarou: “ Você pode encarcerar um revolucionário, mas não pode encarcerar a Revolução”...
Simpatizante deste movimento e amante da arte de rua, música e cultura, Sara Cruz, cujo tem tatuado em seu peito o nome “Black Panthers”, batizou assim esta campanha em prol de ajudar na ascensão da arte de rua. Se naquela época as armas eram de fogo contra a repressão e o preconceito, agora, as nossas são de arte e música. Com muito amor e respeito, estamos aqui para defender e promover nossa arte além de proporcionar momentos memoráveis de diversão, boa música e fraternidade. The Black Panthers Party, from Oakland – California, emerged in the end of 1966 intended to defend the black community that suffered with the racism and also with the policies’ abuse of power in that age. Using fi****ms, leather jackets and supported by an estate law (that said that every citizen who its physical integrity was threatened would keep a firearm and employ the use of force), the Black Panthers use to patrol their communities and offered support for them; wearing and feeding. Huey Newton, the founder of this political and social left party, was assaulted and arrested after had killed a policeman and injured another one in an intense shooting with the Oakland police. Newton, about his arrest, declared: You can jail a Revolutionary, but you can't jail the Revolution. Sympathizer of this movement and a culture, music and art lover, Sara Cruz, whom has tattooed in her chest the name “Black Panthers”, named the campaign like this in favor of helping the street art raising. If in that times the weapons were fi****ms against the repression and prejudice, now, our weapons are art and music. Everybody is welcome to our home!
