Primarily rooted in painting, installation and video, Fernanda Galvão’s practice explores the points of convergence between landscape, anatomy, and living matter. Drawing equally from biology and science fiction, she develops a biomorphic vocabulary through which she shapes speculative environments.

Her artistic research originates in her interest in cancer cells, linked to her personal experience of illness. “I was particularly fascinated by the pigments used by pathologists to stain cells, as well as by the relationships between the microcosm and the cosmos,” she explains. Never identical and fundamentally unpredictable, these became the starting point for the creation of fictional ecosystems, populated by plant-like entities, membranes, cellular structures, and organisms unknown to humans.

Devoid of sunlight or horizon lines, her autonomous worlds gradually erase spatial and temporal reference points by blurring the boundaries between inside and outside. The multiplicity of unprecedented organic forms also distorts scales, causing the microscopic and the monumental to merge. Through vast fields of color in dialogue with meticulous linear details, Galvão suggests scenes of regenerative entropy and adaptation, in which living systems become reservoirs of memory and carry invisible forms of knowledge.

FOUNDRY SEOUL is proud to announce our representation of Fernanda Galvão in Asia, in collaboration with Casa Triângulo(casa triângulo). We are delighted to mark this new chapter with a joint presentation of her new works at Frieze London.

Fernanda Galvão (b. 1994) constructs fictional ecosystems through a distinctive visual language grounded in her interest in biology and science fiction. Drawing from personal experience, Galvão has explored cancer cells and diverse forms of life, creating unfamiliar worlds in which expansive landscapes, anatomy, and living matter intertwine. Rich in layers of oil stick, charcoal, and pastel, her paintings juxtapose saturated fields of color with meticulous linear details, suggesting scenes of regeneration, adaptation, and resilience.

Born in São Paulo, Galvão lives and works in Paris. She studied Visual Arts at Fundação Armando Alvares Penteado (FAAP). Recent solo and group exhibitions include Galerie Barbara Thumm, Berlin; Casa Triângulo, São Paulo; Lyles & King, New York; FOUNDRY SEOUL, Seoul; White Cube Bermondsey, London; Instituto Tomie Ohtake, São Paulo; and Museu Oscar Niemeyer, Curitiba.
