The Carnival of Grande Rio exhibit - Laroyê, Grande Rio - opened in the Rio Museum of Art and it is beautiful! Everyone really enjoyed everything at the event!

In addition to the exhibit, which was inspired by the “Fala, Majeté! Sete Chaves de Exu” story told by the samba school Acadêmicos do Grande Rio, which won the 2022 Carnival, there was a lot of samba with the Invocada drums. 👏

The exhibit runs at MAR until March 3, and features pieces from the Carnaval, as well as works by guest artists.

In the same location, a 4-story building was installed, with a sustainable architecture that includes solar energy, a roof-garden and a water reuse system. It also has a super nice garden. If you want to make the most of the visit, we recommend a guided tour.

New Exhibit in Cosme Velho!
Check out “Nada é de novo”, by Marina Ribas.
On Saturday, March 18, Z42 Arte opens a solo exhibit by Marina Ribas, an artist from Rio de Janeiro with a career spanning 20 years in Brazilian contemporary art. The exhibit occupies the ground floor of the mansion in Cosme Velho, with unpublished works produced over the last three years.
Iconic in the history of art, the egg is an element present in the trajectory of great Brazilian artists: Anna Maria Maiolino, Celeida Tostes, Lygia Pape, Regina Vater and the writer Clarice Lispector. As nothing is "new", Marina Ribas explores this symbol with her poetic language. From small eggs produced one by one by hand, to totemic sculptures, large paintings to unauthorized insertions made by the artist outside the country.

📍 Address: Z42 Arte, R. Filinto de Almeida, 42 - Cosme Velho.
🕒 Hours: Monday to Friday, from 11 am to 4 pm. (Saturdays, by appointment)
Exhibit opens March 18, at 5 pm and runs until April 18, 2023
🎫 Ticket: free.
🚌 How to get there: get off at the Largo do Machado Metro and take the 422 to the Corcovado Train stop to walk to the location.

Marcela Cantuária is one of our favorite artists of Rio de Janeiro. We love her painting and installation, "Ghosts of Hope", of oil and acrylic on canvas and wood, 2018.
🎨
The work was created and installed during a sabatical at Solar dos Abacaxis. It is composed of a deconstructed Brazilian flag, with images of people who went missing and were murdered during the military dictatorship, as well as figures from more recent political history such as Marielle Franco and Anderson Gomes (Rio City Councilwoman and human rights activist and her driver murdered in 2018). In addition, there is the phrase: 'Whoever looks for bones is a dog' (from a poster from the archives of the dictatorship that mocked the search for bodies). The Water Bearer, symbol of Aquarius, is prominently featured in the work, a reference to the Age of Aquarius and symbol of hope and new beginnings. There are tarot stars and the phrase 'Order and Progress' from the Brazilian flag across the Water Bearer, and finally, on the back side of the Water Bearer is the Captain America shield with the question 'With how many deaths is a democracy made?'.

is pleased to present 'Depois que entra ninguém sai', 's first solo show in Rio de Janeiro, marking the beginning of his representation by the gallery. The exhibition is curated by and presents recent works in which the artist investigates the possibilities of drawing on paper, canvas and also through sculpture.

On the occasion of the opening, which takes place on November 10, starting at 6pm, the artist will lead a guided tour of the exhibition at 7pm.

"Continuing his interest in the relationships between drawing, painting, and color, the artist presents works that are characterized by 'vacuum horror' - that is, a "horror of emptiness" that invites us to contemplate images full of details. Seen from afar, these images stand out for the vibrant presence of color, while seen up close, they are like a plot where pleasure, humor, violence and nonsense come together in the juxtaposition of images rich in possible interpretations," writes Fonseca in the text that accompanies the exhibition.
