This work becomes very important at a time when there is clearly an increase in tourism in favelas in the city of Rio de Janeiro. Currently, tourism in favelas has become an important part of cultural tourism. The importance of the work is to provide visitors with tourism services in Vidigal, and to assess the relationship between tourists and residents, as both play an important role in the development of tourism in the favela.
It can be said that the relation of tourism in the favela is based on two distinct moments: the first before the arrival of the State and the second after the territorial occupation by the State. The hypothesis that supports this research considers that the development of tourism in the Vidigal favela can be structured from the implementation of the UPP in 2012, giving more security to the residents and their visitors.
Due to the recent demand of tourism in the favelas of Rio de Janeiro, it is necessary to carry out the research to show the possible impacts caused by tourism in Vidigal.
Tourism is happening in a disorderly way, which ends up causing the increase in the prices of buying, selling and renting of residential properties, thus causing real estate speculation. Another concern of the residents is people from other cities, neighborhoods and even countries promoting tourism in the Vidigal favela.
