O Museu Antonio Parreiras, instituição pública e um espaço da FUNARJ, preserva, pesquisa e promove a memória e a obra desse artista brasileiro, um dos mais importantes do seu tempo, assim como de seu acervo de arte brasileira produzida na passagem do século XIX para o século XX. Sediado na antiga residência da família Parreiras, seu acervo foi formado com a aquisição, pelo estado, de um conjunto significativo de obras do próprio pintor e de outros artistas contemporâneos dele. A coleção forma um expressivo panorama temático ligado a pintura de paisagem, pintura de gênero, retratística, nus - em especial femininos - e pintura histórica. Esse acervo inicial foi acrescido pela coleção pertencente ao antigo Departamento de Difusão Cultural, composta por obras premiadas nos Salões Fluminenses de Belas-Artes, e pelo acervo do jornalista e historiador Alberto Lamego, formado por trabalhos de artistas estrangeiros, ambos incorporados em 1951. The Antonio Parreiras Museum (MAP), a public institution and part of the Rio de Janeiro State Culture Secretariat/Funarj, preserves, researches and promotes the memory and work of this Brazilian artist, one of the most important of his time, as well as the collection of Brazilian art produced at the turn of the nineteenth century to the twentieth century. Opened in 1942, it was the first art museum in the state of Rio de Janeiro and the first dedicated to the memory of an artist. Headquartered in the former residence of the artist, the collection was formed with the acquisition by the state of a significant number of works by himself, Parreiras, and other artists his contemporaries. The collection forms a significant overall view on landscape painting, genre painting, portraiture, nudes, especially women, and historical painting. The highlight is the poetics of Parreiras, present in works done between 1883 and 1937. This initial collection was increased by the colletion belonging to the former Departament of Cultural Diffusion, composed of awardwinning works in the Fluminense Halls of Fine Arts, by the collection of the journalist and historian, Alberto Lamego, comprising works of foreign artists, both incorporated in 1951.
