Devido o jogo do Brasil, e problemas com transporte de alguns alunos que se interessaram pela oficina, a Oficina de Análise e Construção De Corpus que seria realizada no dia 06/07 acontecerá nos dias 05 e 13 de julho.

Para quem se interessa na área de pesquisa acadêmica envolvendo análise e criação de corpus, o Segundo Semestre do curso de Letras /Língua Inglesa e Literaturas do Departamento de Ciências Humanas, Campus IV, junto ao professor Davi Alves Oliveira, promove uma Oficina de Análise e Construção de Corpus.

A Oficina será ministrada em dois dias: Dia 06 de Julho às 13:30, tendo como tema “Softwares e Ferramentas, e criação de Corpus”; e dia 13 de Julho, também às 13:30, quando serão feitas as análises dos corpora criados. Para isso, é necessário que todos os interessados e inscritos tenham em mãos algum computador portátil. Os encontros acontecerão na sala 18 (Sala Ambiente de Línguas).

O certificado de participação presencial (8 horas) será enviado pelo email indicado pelo participante no momento da inscrição.

O evento terá como público alvo os alunos dos cursos de Letras/Língua Inglesa, Letras/Letras Vernáculas e Direito, não restringindo, entretanto, a participação de qualquer outro.

Hello everybody! We are GT2 and today we are going to explain about different kind of English accents.

First, we have to deconstruct this idea of only two types of English - British and American - Maybe we usually do that, because it is used as reference to differ the different ways to talk in English. We need to understand that there are many English accents and we are going to discuss about some of them. As we know, English language was disseminated to the whole world none only in colonized countries, in most part by England, but also for its economic power influence other countries have English as a foreign and second language.
There is a notable difference in Africa’s English accents, for instance and for this Nation has been colonized by England, their accent are close to the British. However, USA that were a settlement colony have an different accent maybe cause of the multiculturalism, or even Canada that people talk in English and in French make the accent different. The point is, there’s not just two accents in English because of many factors that influence in it for example, history, culture, the mother tongue and dialets. We can observe this difference in Brazilians English too, our maternal language affects in our accent when we are talking in English even because we learn it as a second language.
It should be pointed out that, our intention here is not to generalize the central theme exposed, since the content here is very complex because we have variations and accents in all languages not only in English. We can even cite our country again as an example of variation of accents between states even, towns are very visible.

What's up guys! GT5 back again! And today continuing with the series of posts that we aim to explain the importance of submitting works (papers, workshop, etc) in academics events and how to submit this works, we'll talk a little more about workshops! Stay with us!
As you know (if not, check our previous posts! （＾∀＾) ) the next edition of the “II Colóquio Desleituras” is almost here! Some academic events promote mini-courses and workshop to the participants with the Colóquio Desleituras is no different, Phd, masters and specialists (graduates and/or undergraduates can submit together with their teachers) can submit workshop proposals and mini-courses, this proposal must have at the least 500 characters explaining the proposal (as well, must present theoretical background, objectives, justification, methodology and references) and should be in the guidelines of the event, for last, the activities should long between 4 or 8 hours.
After writing the proposal following the parameters and submitting, the commission will analyze your proposal and give you the pass (if your proposal is in or out ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ) is really a good opportunity participate of this Colóquio, because, is experience, you know? a large part of the academic events works in this way thus not being part of the event is a huge waste of opportunity, right?

THE HANDMAID’S TALE, VULGO GRACE AND AS MENINAS

GT3 back in the house and we are going to talk about what happened last week in the Entrando no Bosque Leia Mais Mulheres. We had a good conversation corelating the books The handmaid’s tale and Vulgo Grace, both by the Canadian author Margaret Atwood. The ones who was the responsible were Cléverson Felix and Jemima Araújo.

We began with Vulgo Grace corelating with the serie Alias Grace produced by the Netflix. The handmaid’s tale was the other book we worked with. There was a good conversation because both books are about themes that is very important to our society. The feminism was a strong point that made the conversations very strong.

Vulgo Grace is a book written in 1996 and It is about the psychiatrist process to prepare an opinion about the mental health of the main character to judge if she is or not the murderer. So, we have both what Grace reports and what she omits, blending elements of her desire and what society expects from a woman. Whereas The Handmaid’s tale were written in 1985 and is about a dystopian society where the women lost all benefits and follow the story of Offred, a woman who tells us how the system were stablished.

Next week, we are going to discuss about As Meninas by Lygia Fagundes Telles. We invite you because this is a very important book. Come to Ler Mais Mulheres with us.
