Join us at in Wynwood, Miami for this unforgettable opportunity . We will practice some of the traditional Afro-Brazilian rhythms, using the sound of drums, and other percussion instruments (Agogô and caxixi) through rhythmic practice, singing, and body language to experience music, spirituality, and community.
About the Instructor, Dara Freire -
Since she was a child, she has been practicing Umbanda. In the last 17 years, Dara has studied and trained at the Umbanda Temple of São Sebastião (TUSS, Brazil), where she received initiations in the Umbanda tradition, developing her spiritual work. In the last 9 years, she has extended her studies throughout the USA, Europe (2019), and Canada (2019).
She is an actress who studied Brazilian cultural movements, rhythms, and dances, mainly within the Umbanda tradition. She is also a Curimbeira (ceremonial drummer) playing the Atabaque drum, the sacred devotional instrument for the Orixás Divinities.
Currently, she is a graduate of the California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS) with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology.
Note:
- Bring your Atabaque or Conga drum.
- Djembe is allowed if you already have practice with the instrument and can follow it through the sonority (which is opposite to the atabaque).
- We will have some instruments available, check when registering.
