The event started this Wednesday, August 12th (8pm Brasília time), and will run until Sunday, September 6th, 2026, at 11:59pm local time for each player.
Throughout the period, a Free Timed Research is available for all trainers, within the game's research menu.
Upon completing the proposed tasks, the final reward is a guaranteed encounter with a Mewtwo with all attributes (IVs) at the highest level, accompanied by an exclusive birthday event background plan.
The big difference with this Mewtwo is that it already comes with the third Mega Evolution level unlocked, allowing it to evolve into Mega Mewtwo Y once the game conditions are met.
Be aware of the deadline: like any Timed Research, there is an expiration date.
It is necessary to complete all steps and redeem the rewards before the event ends, on September 6th — after that, the mission disappears and it will no longer be possible to claim this Mewtwo through this method.
An important exception: trainers who have already caught a Mewtwo during the in-person Times Square event on July 9th receive a different version, with distinct attributes and rewards, and will not be able to claim this Mewtwo through this new research.
According to the game itself, the Mewtwo with the special Times Square background plan should become available again in the future, still without a confirmed date.
The Pokémon GO team also emphasizes the usual warning: pay attention to your surroundings and follow local safety and health recommendations during the matches.
