Plus de 30 VNU servent actuellement au sein des agences de l’ONU au Burundi et assistent les populations pour la paix et le développement. 🌟 Supporting youth volunteering means investing in the next generation of changemakers.

More than 2,700 young UN Volunteers aged 18–24 are already contributing to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals, bringing innovative solutions and creating positive impact in their communities.

UNV Burundi Field Unit conducted an information session for former UNICEF Burundi interns and former World Food Programme Burundi staff members.

Participants learned about the UNV programme, the recruitment process, the steps to create and strengthen a profile on the Unified Volunteering Platform ( ), and the various volunteering opportunities available across the United Nations system.

Through this initiative, UNV continues to strengthen a pool of committed and skilled talents ready to serve as United Nations Volunteers and contribute to SDGs while ensuring no one is left behind.

As part of the field monitoring mission, the UNV Burundi Field Unit continued its engagement in Gitega on 22 and 23 July 2026 with UN Volunteers assigned to BIDF and BIJE bank under the PNUD Burundi 's Moonshot Initiative.

On 22 July, Béatrice Nibizi, Client Engagement Assistant at , met with BIDF management to discuss the contribution and impact of UN Volunteers serving within the institution. The bank's leadership commended the dedication and professionalism of the volunteers, highlighting their significant contribution to advancing women-led projects financed through the Moonshot Initiative.

BIDF officials also expressed appreciation for the value added by UN Volunteers and emphasized the importance of maintaining volunteer positions, citing the growing workload and continued need for their expertise.

During the same mission, Ms. Nibizi conducted a field visit to observe firsthand the work of supporting women entrepreneurs benefiting from BIDF-funded projects. The visit highlighted the tangible impact of volunteerism in advancing women's economic empowerment and promoting sustainable development.

On 23 July, Ms. Nibizi facilitated a joint information-sharing session with UN Volunteers serving at BIDF and BIJE. The session focused on the new Conditions of Service, end-of-assignment procedures, and key information related to Cigna insurance. It also provided a platform for volunteers to exchange experiences, share feedback, and raise concerns.

Both BIJE and BIDF management reaffirmed their appreciation for the contribution of UN Volunteers, recognizing their commitment to advancing entrepreneurship, financial inclusion, and sustainable community development in support of the UNDP Burundi Moonshot Initiative.

📍 UN Volunteer Field Monitoring Mission to UNHCR Muyinga and Gitega

As part of its commitment to supporting and accompanying UN Volunteers, the UNV Burundi Field Unit is conducting a monitoring mission with UN Volunteers serving with UNHCR in Muyinga and PNUD Burundi in Gitega from 20 to 24 July 2026.

The mission aims to ensure the well-being of UN Volunteers, identify challenges encountered while performing their duties, share updates on the new Conditions of Service, and document the results and impact of volunteerism in the field. It also serves as an opportunity to further strengthen the partnership between and .

On 21 July, Béatrice Nibizi, Client Engagement Assistant at , visited the Musenyi Refugee Camp to observe firsthand the valuable contribution of UN Volunteers supporting refugees and host communities. She appreciated their professionalism, dedication, and unwavering commitment to serving vulnerable populations.

As a UN Volunteer and Communications Associate with the Global Fund programme at PNUD Burundi, Daniella Ninteretse puts her skills to work in enhancing the visibility of field interventions and their results.
