Team Youssuf Nyange Defeats Team Saido Ntibazonkiza 2-1 in Inspiring Charity Match

Football’s power to bring people together was on full display at Intwari Stadium on Saturday June 20, 2026, as Team Youssuf Nyange defeated Team Saido Ntibazonkiza 2-1 in a charity match that blended sporting entertainment with a message of solidarity and community support.

The event, which drew enthusiastic crowds and prominent figures from ’s football community, was about more than competition. Organized around a charitable cause, the match highlighted the role sport can play in fostering unity, encouraging social responsibility, and mobilizing support for those in need.

On the pitch, Team Saido Ntibazonkiza took an early lead when Destin Maniriho capitalized on a precise pass from Hussein Tchabalala to open the scoring. But Team Youssuf Nyange responded with resilience. Amini Nshimirimana leveled the match from the penalty spot before midfielder Leonard Gakwaya completed the comeback with the winning goal, sealing a 2-1 victory.

Goalkeeper Jonathan Nahimana emerged as one of the game’s key figures, producing a series of crucial saves, including a spectacular stop to deny a powerful strike from Girumugisha. His performance helped preserve Team Youssuf Nyange’s advantage during the closing stages of the match.

The occasion was further elevated by the presence of Congolese winger Largie Ramazani, who received a warm welcome from supporters packed into Intwari Stadium. Before kickoff, Burundi Football Federation President Alexandre Muyenge joined Ramazani on the field, drawing cheers from fans as he briefly showcased his own football skills.

As celebrations followed the final whistle, the victory marked a second consecutive charity match triumph for Team Youssuf Nyange. Yet the lasting legacy of the day may lie beyond the scoreboard. In a country where football remains one of the most unifying forces in society, the event served as a reminder that the sport can inspire not only competition, but also compassion, generosity, and collective action for the common good.

From Burundian Farmlands to Washington’s AI Discussions: Young Innovator Elie Bubuya Joins Prestigious U.S. Leadership Program

Elie Bubuya, the young Burundian innovator has arrived in the United States to take part in the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) Freedom 250: AI Innovation and Security, a flagship professional exchange initiative of the U.S. Department of State.

The program convenes innovators, policymakers, researchers and industry leaders from around the world to explore the growing impact of artificial intelligence on security, governance, economic development and global cooperation.

For the participant, the journey marks a significant milestone—one that began far from the conference rooms and policy discussions of the United States. In Burundi, his work has focused on developing AI-powered solutions to help farmers detect crop diseases, demonstrating how emerging technologies can address real-world challenges in one of Africa’s most agriculture-dependent economies.

Now, that local experience is being brought to a global stage.

“I am deeply grateful to the U.S. Embassy Bujumbura, Burundi for identifying me and providing this incredible opportunity,” he said, while thanking the Embassy team for its support and commitment to empowering young Burundian innovators.

The participation of a Burundian representative in a program focused on artificial intelligence and security underscores the growing role that African innovators are playing in shaping conversations about the future of technology. As governments and institutions worldwide grapple with the opportunities and risks presented by AI, voices from emerging economies are increasingly becoming part of the discussion.

The IVLP Freedom 250 program offers participants a platform to exchange ideas, examine policy approaches and build international networks at a time when artificial intelligence is rapidly transforming industries, economies and societies across the globe.

From developing technology solutions in Burundian fields to engaging in global conversations on AI innovation and security, the journey reflects the expanding reach of African talent in one of the world’s most consequential technological revolutions.

More updates are expected as the program continues across the United States.
