Bahrain’s Parliament is preparing to debate a proposed amendment to the 1976 Penal Code that targets men disguising themselves as women to access areas reserved for women.

The bill, submitted by five MPs led by Jameel Hassan, would make such acts punishable by up to one year in prison, a fine of up to BD1,000, or both. If used to commit another offence, the disguise would count as an aggravating circumstance.

Ten white-collar workers have been sentenced for defrauding Bahrain’s Social Insurance Organisation and Tamkeen out of BD230,000.

At the centre of the case are two brothers, both company owners. They submitted false contracts to claim funds, adding employees to their records who never worked there. They received BD90,000 from SIO and BD140,000 from Tamkeen.

The High Criminal Court handed each brother 10 years in prison and fines of BD100,000.
