PICTOPLASMA x Balkans is a conference and festival for contemporary art, design, illustration and animation with a focus on creating visual stories with characters. By bringing the experience of the world’s largest platform for character design PICTOPLASMA, we are creating a space and time for artists, designers and animators from Eastern Europe to showcase their works, exchange ideas and build a

Balkan community around their love for characters. Together, we push forward an interdisciplinary discussion and a new visual vocabulary – from illustration to animation, game to interactive design, urban to graphic arts. PICTOPLASMA x Balkans is organized by StandArt, with the support of PICTOPLASMA.

Who is... Srđa Dragović? 👀

Meet the Montenegrin visual artist, illustrator, graphic designer, and visual rebel joining this year's PICTOPLASMA x Balkans lineup.

🎨 Srđa Dragović builds stories one drawing at a time. Moving effortlessly between illustration, posters, publications, and digital media, his work explores the sweet spot where characters, typography, and visual storytelling meet—with a sharp eye for simplicity and bold ideas.

Based in Podgorica, Srđa collaborates with publishers, cultural organisations, and the independent art scene across the region and beyond. He's also part of the organising team behind FLUID Design Forum and a co-founder of the Ilustress collective, helping shape the contemporary visual landscape from both sides of the drawing board.

Who is... Lea Rasovszky? 👀

Meet the Romanian artist and visual rebel joining this year's PICTOPLASMA x Balkans lineup.

🎨 Lea Rasovszky's work dives headfirst into the wonderfully complicated world of being human. Through raw, ironic drawings and immersive installations, she explores social stereotypes, everyday contradictions, and the strange beauty hidden in our quirks, inviting viewers to become part of the story.

Based in Bucharest, Lea is also the co-founder of the Maatka Phi Association, supporting contemporary art through cultural, educational, and social initiatives. Alongside her artistic practice, she continues her research in Art History and Theory at the National University of Arts Bucharest.

Who is... Stefko? 👀

Meet the Serbian character designer, illustrator, and visual rebel joining this year's PICTOPLASMA x Balkans lineup.

🎨 Stefan "Stefko" Jangovski creates bold, cartoon-inspired characters that feel most at home on city walls. With roots in graffiti and a background in graphic design, his colourful murals transform everyday urban spaces into playful worlds filled with curious creatures, fantasy, humour, and adventure.

🙌 A co-founder of the multidisciplinary collective Das Drogen, Stefko has collaborated with festivals and brands including Exit Festival, Lovefest, Kafeterija, Bassivity Digital, and Zla-Zla. Today, he focuses on his independent mural practice, bringing imagination to the streets one wall at a time.

Who is... Sanja Stiković? 👀

Meet the Slovenian illustrator and visual rebel joining this year's PICTOPLASMA x Balkans lineup.

🎨 Better known as Odsanyu, Sanja Stiković creates digital illustrations that sit somewhere between comforting and uncanny. Inspired by nostalgia, emotional contrasts, and the fleeting nature of life, her work blends playful characters with surreal undertones, inviting every viewer to find their own story within.

Alongside her freelance practice, Sanja is completing her studies in Art Education at the University of Ljubljana while exhibiting her work both in Slovenia and internationally.

Who is... Fokion Xenos? 👀

Meet the Athens-based animation director, designer and visual rebel joining this year's PICTOPLASMA x Balkans lineup.

🎬 Fokion Xenos creates bold, playful animations where humour, colour, and heartfelt storytelling go hand in hand. Blending practical and digital techniques, his films prove that animation can be both visually striking and emotionally honest.

🌟 His award-winning graduation film "Heatwave" has travelled to more than 60 international festivals, including Annecy, Anima Mundi, Edinburgh, and Cinekid, and was shortlisted for the Student BAFTA.

Today, Fokion works as a director, educator, producer, and one of the driving forces behind Greece's animation scene.

We're thrilled to welcome Fokion to Varna this September. 💛

Who is... Nevena Ekimova? 👀

Meet the Bulgarian artist joining this year's PICTOPLASMA x Balkans lineup.

🎨 Nevena Ekimova creates playful, poetic worlds where art isn't just something you look at—it's something you step into. Working across sculpture, installation, performance, and interactive projects, her practice invites audiences of all ages to touch, explore, and become part of the story.

A graduate of the Valand Academy in Gothenburg, with studies in Norway and Iceland, Nevena has exhibited internationally and created large-scale public projects, including the beloved Mirror Hall and Children's Hall Garden Town at the Museum of Humour and Satire in Gabrovo.

Meet the Croatian illustrator and artist joining this year's PICTOPLASMA x Balkans lineup.�

🎨 Klara Rusan, better known as Klarxy, creates richly imaginative worlds where illustration, painting, and storytelling collide. After studying animation in Zagreb and earning an MA in Authorial Illustration from Falmouth University in England, she found her home in illustration—crafting bold visual narratives that are as emotional as they are unexpected.�

From graphic novels and award-winning illustrations to thought-provoking solo exhibitions, Klara's work invites you into beautifully strange worlds you'll want to linger in.�
