The Balkans International Wine Competition and Festival

The Balkans International Wine Competition and Festival The Competition is open to wine producers from all Balkan countries, from the Black sea region and other wine producing countries.

The first forum of its kind aimed to the Balkan wines. The Competition started rotating the venue from 2019, with Belgrade to be the first city to host it after Sofia. In 2021 Skopje will be the host of the BIWC. The Balkan Wine festival is held annually in Sofia, as a natural center of the Balkan Peninsula, it aims to focus the attention of the world wine community to this interesting and unique

wine region. BIWCF involves wine producers from all the Balkan countries, but also wineries from the Black Sea region and the rest of Europe.

๐Ÿ†๐Ÿท in Hvar officially crowned the best wines of the Balkans!

The anniversary edition of the Balkans International Wine Competition brought together a record 280 wineries, evaluated by an international jury of 20 judges, including four Masters of Wine.

This yearโ€™s Grand Trophy for Best Wine in the Balkans was awarded to Elenovo Chardonnay 2024 from Edoardo Miroglio Winery, Bulgaria.

For the first time in the history of the competition, Platinum Medal were introduced, recognizing wines that achieved the highest scores. The first Platinum Medal for was awarded to Bononia Gold Selection Premium White 2023 from Bononia Estate, Bulgaria, which also received the title Best of Show Bulgaria with 96 points.

The Trophy Best Winery in the Balkans was awarded to Suvla Winery, Tรผrkiye for winning the highest number of medals in the competition.

The Best Wine Personality in the Balkans 2026 award was presented to Ivana Simjanovska of North Macedonia for her long-standing contribution to the promotion of Balkan wines.

๐Ÿท๐Ÿ‡ญ๐Ÿ‡ท An unforgettable evening at Vina Tomiฤ‡ on Hvar Island.

After the first day of , the jury had the pleasure of experiencing the wines, hospitality and unique atmosphere of the Tomiฤ‡ winery in Jelsa - a place deeply connected to the winemaking tradition of Hvar.

The evening included a special tasting of wines crafted from indigenous Dalmatian varieties, reflecting the character, climate and heritage of the island. ๐Ÿ‡

A highlight of the visit was meeting Andro Tomiฤ‡, the winemaker behind the winery and one of the key figures of modern Hvar winemaking. After more than twenty years of professional training in France and elsewhere, he returned to his native island with the vision of restoring Hvarโ€™s historic wine reputation and continuing his familyโ€™s 150-year winemaking tradition.
