Обещах да бъда кратък.

Но как да бъда кратък след всичките години? Трудностите по пътя, научените уроци. Всички ценни хора срещнах тук. Повярвах, че мога. После създадохме екип. Вече вярвах, че можем. Можем да събираме, да помагаме, да допринесем. Създавахме култура. Бяхме неуморни!

„Галерията е там, където е изкуството!“
Така казвахме.

Галерията беше събирателна точка за смелите, за дръзките, за мечтателите. Стига да имаш какво да кажеш, беше сред свои. Имаше изложби, фестивали, базари, празненства. Там срещахме още повече съмишленици, но накрая настъпиха по-мрачни времена за Underground... Въпреки това никога не напуснахме сградата, защото ѝ го дължахме.
Сега вече е факт: Underground на четвъртия етаж си отиде със сградата.

Благодаря на всички, които бяха част от този проект през годините. Всички артисти, които доказаха, че и те като нас могат да повярват в себе си! Да се осмелят! Десетки, стотици хора, които са оставили времето и здравето си, вярвайки, че в независимото има смисъл! Защото това, което създадохме, беше много повече… беше общество. Общество на колаборациите.

Обръщам се от свое име. От името на едно някога двайсетгодишно момче с идея и черен спрей в празно хале. Но говоря с гласа на целия ни екип. Стените се вдигат, хората се събират, културата се създава. Вярвайте, бъдете добри, за да бъдете добри и ако някога имаме шанс да ви срещнем отново, за нас ще бъде чест!

"Everyone gets somewhere. It’s not just me. Everyone eventually gets somewhere. Death is the ultimate answer. But life is absolute."

It is with our immense sadness that we write to inform you of the passing of one of the greatest artists of our time, the pioneer of polaroid photography, the father of performance art, the most radical, the one and only, ULAY, who has left for another journey, today, peacefully in his sleep (November 30, 1943-March 2, 2020).

ULAY was incomparable. As a human being and as an artist. The gentlest soul, a giver. A pioneer, a provocateur, an activist, a mentor, a colleague, a friend, a father, a husband, family. A seeker of light. A lover of life. A traveler. A fighter. A brilliant thinker, who has been pushing limits and enduring pain. Selfless and fearless, ethical, elegant, witty. He, who has influenced so many.

"One can learn many things in life, but not art. The madness you need - the must which is shaking you all the time. You are an artist even when you are asleep. Because of the must."

He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, the art community and the thousands of us, who he has so deeply touched and inspired. He influenced generations of artists and many more to come - his memory and legacy will live on forever through his work and the work of the ULAY Foundation.
