“A garden is a dialogue between a person and a place. This conversation happens when someone cares for the soil, plants a seed, harvests a ripe tomato. Gardening is tied to being physically present in a specific location to perform these actions – it can’t happen remotely or at a distance. It is impossible to garden and not pay attention to the rain patterns and soil composition and all of the living critters suddenly visible when your body gets closer to the earth. A garden is an ongoing process, a series of actions. A garden has a perimeter, and its boundaries are defined by tending.”

A main element from the book is the lexicon with words, which emerged in conversations between the authors or which they encountered while working in the three territories.
The definitions of these words are written by people they met in these places - botanists, writers, gardeners, activists, scientists, artists and curators.
A few of them will join us to read fragments of the book. See you on October 21, Wednesday, in Swimming Pool at 6:30 pm for the launch! 🪲
