Mediated Encounters (Mise-en-scène) explores the unstable boundary between reality and representation through scenography, architecture, and illusion. Drawing from the decay of modernist architecture and the phenomenon of facadism in Sofia and across Bulgaria, Yana Abrasheva reimagines buildings as hollow stage sets — preserved surfaces masking constructed realities beneath.
A central element of the exhibition is a newly commissioned video work created in collaboration with filmmaker Lazar Vazduharev. A graduate of HEAD Genève in film directing, Lazar’s recent film Shinings (“Сияния”) was presented at SIFF and PoPup-Cineplex. His cinematic Shinings extends the exhibition’s investigation of staged realities, mediation, and the porous boundary between documentation and fiction.
The exhibition is realized with the support of Charta Gallery , now becoming Collect — a new platform that brings together Gallery +359, Charta, and their associated projects and initiatives under a shared structure dedicated to contemporary art and the cultivation of a culture of collecting.
