Op 29 november komt pianist Christian Wallumrød voor een exclusief solo concert naar Otoro!

De Noorse pianist en componist Christian Wallumrød maakt muziek uit stilte. Zijn werk beweegt zich op het grensvlak van compositie en improvisatie, tussen jazz, folk en hedendaagse muziek. Met zijn ingetogen, poëtische stijl creëert hij een unieke luisterervaring waarin elke noot telt.

Al meer dan twee decennia geldt Wallumrød als een van de meest vooraanstaande en vernieuwende musici van Europa. Met zijn vele projecten — van het Christian Wallumrød Ensemble tot samenwerkingen met Dans les arbres en de Trondheim Jazz Orchestra — bouwde hij een indrukwekkend en eigenzinnig oeuvre op dat zich niet in één genre laat vangen.

Tijdens dit exclusieve concert speelt hij muziek uit zijn nieuwe soloalbum Percolation, een intiem en eigenzinnig vervolg op eerdere albums als Pianokammer en Speaksome. Op Percolation onderzoekt Wallumrød de piano als klankruimte vol melodie, ruis en adem — van eenvoudige, bijna kinderlijke toonzettingen tot avontuurlijke elektronische experimenten. Het resultaat is een verstilde, warme en verrassend menselijke muziek, waarin schoonheid en stilte hand in hand gaan.

Op zondag namiddag 15/12 verwelkomen we pianist Bram De Looze.
Bram De Looze is een Belgische jazzpianist wiens uitgesproken muzikale visie zijn weg heeft gevonden via zowel solo projecten als samenwerkingen met andere artiesten.
Zijn unieke technische vaardigheid en muzikale volwassenheid maken hem een van de interessantste pianisten in België. Hij werkt frequent samen met internationale kleppers zoals Joey Baron en Thomas Morgan.

In 2019, ‘porous structures’ was released, the first album by the quartet Machtelinckx/Badenhorst/Cools/
Gouband. The album won the award for ‘Best Belgian Jazz Album’.
In September 2024, ‘porous structures II’ will be released, a new album by a quartet led by Ruben
Machtelinckx, this time in the company of Fredrik Rasten, Frederik Leroux and again Toma Gouband.
What remains is the choice for acoustic and fragile sounds, comprehensible to the listener but with an
underlying tension and complexity. New is the intertwining of acoustic guitars. While the first album played
with silence, ‘porous structures II’ plays with textures. The melodic voice is exchanged for a group sound in
which individuals are barely distinguishable. The classic roles in an ensemble are abandoned: the three guitars
weave a web and the percussion moves freely through it. The quartet plays a stubborn game of endless,
subtle variations.

Very excited to host the wonderful Helga Fanderl for a unique filmscreening.
Helga has developed a practice of Super 8 filming, programming film sessions that are different each time, making personal site-specific screenings, as well as exhibitions and installations.

‘This here empty room’ is a collection of thirteen miniature compositions for solo acoustic guitar and solo piano.

Our third concert is coming up!
On May 17th we are happy to present two duos.
The first concert will be the duo of guitarist Ruben Machtelinckx and Norwegian violinist Nils Økland. After that Nils Økland will perform with long-time collaborator Sigbjørn Apeland on harmonium.
This acclaimed duo has released several records on the ECM label.
