The true story ⬇️ behind the design of the Brothers In Arms Memorial
In English and Dutch:
Many posts appear on social media about the Brothers In Arms Memorial. And that's a good thing!
However, it is rare to find accurate and complete information about the memorial's origins. This is also the case in this post by author Mr. Scott Bennett.
Undoubtedly, this gentleman has not been well informed either.
Accurate and complete information is important.
Therefore, as administrators of this FB page, we have decided to clarify a few things after all these years:

why don't you tell the whole story about the Brother In Arms Memorial?
The Brother In Arms Memorial was designed by Belgian landscape architect Andy Malengier.
He came up with the entire concept for the memorial. Once everything had been designed, Australian sculptor Louis Laumen was asked to create a bronze sculpture based on Andy Malengier's design. The sculpture was based on a sketch by English artist Soren Hawkes. Andy Malengier also asked Belgian lettering artist Stéphanie Busard to carve the texts into the Standing Stones.
In addition, Andy Malengier proposed the idea to Johan Vandewalle for the realisation of a memorial to the two brothers John and Jim Hunter. He was delighted to receive his design.
A non-profit organisation was then set up to realise the memorial.
It is also important to note that, thanks to the considerable administrative and diplomatic efforts of Mr Jozef Vantomme
and Andy Malengier's persuasive arguments about the importance of the memorial, the Belgian National Lottery financed the memorial. Then came Bill Gibbins from Australia, who paid for the sculpture.
Many thanks to all these people, artists and inspirers. And to the many volunteers.
Because without them, the memorial would never have been built.
Thank you very much for putting the memorial in the spotlight from time to time, but it is very important to provide accurate and complete information. Because this very unique Brothers In Arms Memorial will undoubtedly go down in the history of WWI remembrance.

Vele posts verschijnen op sociale media over het Brothers In Arms Memorial. En dat is goed!
Maar bijna nooit kan je er de correcte en volledige informatie lezen over het ontstaan van het memorial. Zo ook in deze post van auteur, dhr. Scott Bennett.
Ongetwijfeld is deze man ook niet goed geïnformeerd geweest.
Correcte en volledige informatie is belangrijk.
Daardoor hebben wij als beheerders van deze pagina beslist om na al deze jaren het een en ander duidelijk te stellen:

waarom vertel je niet het volledige verhaal over het ontstaan van het Brother In Arms Memorial?
Het Brother In Arms Memorial is een ontwerp van de Belgische landschapsarchitect Andy Malengier.
Hij bedacht het volledige concept van het memoriaal. Daarna, wanneer alles ontworpen was werd de Australische beeldhouwer Louis Laumen ingeschakeld om op het ontwerp van Andy Malengier een bronzen beeldhouwwerk te plaatsen. Een beeldhouwwerk naar een schets van de Engelse tekenaar Sören Hawkes. Ook schakelde Andy Malengier de Belgische letterkunstenares Stéphanie Busard in voor het ontwerpen en kappen van de teksten in de Standing Stones.
Daarbovenop werd het idee om een memorial voor de twee broers John en Jim Hunter op te richten door Andy Malengier aan Johan Vandewalle voorgesteld. Waarna hij graag zijn ontwerp in ontvangst nam. Daarna werd een vzw opgericht om het memoriaal te realiseren.
Ook belangrijk is te weten dat door de grote administratieve en diplomatieke inspanningen van dhr. Jozef Vantomme
en de overtuigende kracht van Andy Malengier over het belang van het memoriaal de Nationale Loterij van België het memoriaal gefinancierd heeft. Daarna kwam de Australische Bill Gibbins die het beeldhouwwerk heeft betaald.
Grote dank aan al deze mensen, kunstenaars en bezielers. En de vele vrijwilligers.
Want zonder hun was het memoriaal er nooit gekomen.
Veel dank om het memoriaal af en toe in de kijker te zetten maar correcte en volledige informatie is zeer belangrijk om te vermelden.
Want dit zeer unieke Brothers In Arms Memorial gaat ongetwijfeld de geschiedenis van de herdenking van WOI in.
