This is a small oil on paper painting from a still frame taken from the 1960 movie titled (as shown in France and Belgium), “Le Sergeant Noir.” The American title is Sergeant Rutledge.”

Woody Strode plays Rutledge in this classic John Ford film.

The image is only on the screen for about 3-seconds but it speaks volumes regarding systemic racism, our ongoing global crisis.

SYLLOGY, series title.

A small (50 cm wide) oil on linen concept study for my “Annunciation By Leonardo Da Vinci.” My full-scale painting is approximately 2-meters wide.

The first image on this post is the actual painted study. The second image is the digital inversion one would see on a mobile device.

This study was rendered freehand so it is not an accurate drawing. I am still working out how much detail is needed in the final color-inverted painting in order to make the digital device representation convincing 😉. Less is more….

SYLLOGY.

Working on a several small studies for the “Annunciation…” painting (and other SYLLOGY WIP). I’ve had to back track away from the work on the full sized paintings after encountering rendering and color matching problems for which I was unprepared. Making progress with a better understanding of how to render the inverted Davinci. More pix to come!

Greetings to all and sundry!

The past year has been a really, really tough one. With the lively struggles, few doors closed, and yet, a few other doors opened. I’m moving through the revolving doors with elan.

I placed 3rd in The Circle Foundation For The Arts January 2022 competition with my painting, “David’s Oath of the Horatii by Michael Herbert Dorn.”

I’ve also completed a big residential and studio move from Paris/Pantin, France to Woluwe-Saint-Pierre, Belgium (studio)… although, the contents of my entire studio is still in transit in the netherworld of the Netherlands. We are settling into our home slowly in one of the the Flemish region regions of Brussels (Kraainem).
