Orchestra of the Year Award nominee: Il Pomo d’Oro

Gramophone magazine is excited to introduce a brand new Gramophone Award this year, one which will be voted for by the public: Orchestra of the Year.

Inspiratum is proud to announce Il Pomo d'Oro finds itself among 7 other nominees competing for this award.

The magazine itself writes:
The go-to Baroque orchestra for vocal recitals and operas, Il Pomo d’Oro is based in Italy but draws its members internationally and is directed by the charismatic Russian conductor Maxim Emelyanychev. It brings a remarkable freshness to whatever it does and this year has continued its ‘In War and Peace’ concert tour with Joyce DiDonato (following last year’s Gramophone Recital Award-winning recording). Among the highlights of 2017-18’s recordings were recitals with Ann Hallenberg and Franco Fagioli as well as a complete Handel opera, Ottone, for which they were directed by George Petrou. This autumn they will be heard alongside Erato’s new signing, the impressive young Polish countertenor Jakub Jósef Orlinski.

We start the year with RODELINDA, one of Handel's most accomplished works. Maxim Emelyanychev will conduct the 3 performances at Opéra Royal Château de Versailles Spectacles, the Castle of Chimay and Théâtre des Champs-Elysées.

The wonderful cast, led by Karina Gauvin (Paris) / Inga Kalna (Versailles and Chimay) and Marie-Nicole Lemieux, includes Romina Basso, David DQ Lee, Konstantin Wolff, and John Mark Ainsley.
