Took me a few tries, but I finally managed to get some more Blue Koi Hippies again! 💪🐟 The previous line was way too aggressive when it came to eating their own fry, so I’m really curious to see how these juveniles turn out — and whether they’ll make the cut for next year’s competition! 👀✨

Where there’s a will, there’s a way!
This Ancistrus luzia (L159) decided that a fallen-over cave was the perfect spot for this month’s eggs. I thought about setting it upright again, but by the time I got to it, the male had already claimed it. Always a joy to see them breeding and doing their thing naturally.

Besides using the Sego Aquatics All-in-One Jelly, I also supplement with species-specific foods and live cultures. One of my most successful cultures? Microworms — and I’ll be sharing a full video on how I do it very soon! 👀

But let’s talk about feeding amounts.
A lot of people swear by the "if it's not gone in 5 minutes, it's too much" rule...
❌ I disagree.

Everything you see floating here are microworms — and yes, they stay suspended for only around 5 minutes. But that doesn’t include the jelly, which I intentionally leave in overnight.

🔁 Especially during breeding, I increase feeding to offer an almost 24/7 supply.
Why? Because you can’t breed if you're hungry — or too busy defending food from others. A well-fed fish is a calm, reproductive fish.

Stay tuned for the culturing video!

The smallest member of my Ancistrus collection — Ancistrus claro — but definitely one of the most eye-catching! 🐠💛
Their subtle yet beautiful pattern makes them a great choice for nano tanks, and they get along well with shy macro fish and shrimp too. 🤝🦐

I’m currently working on refining their look through selective breeding, aiming for a shape similar to the stunning L236. 🎯
I might never match the color, but the form is the goal — and I'm excited to see where this project goes! 🔬✨

Definitely one of my favorites! 🖤 The L267 is a relatively new addition to the aquarium hobby and one of the larger Ancistrus species out there.
I’m a huge fan of that bold striped pattern — no surprise it’s nicknamed the “Four Stripe Ancistrus.” 🐟✨

The males I currently have show fewer bristles than expected for their size, but they seem to take a bit longer to mature. That said, things are looking good — my female is currently holding eggs, so I should have some juveniles swimming around soon! 👶💦

Neoheterandria elegans, or the Elegant Livebearer, is a tiny species of freshwater fish that is indigenous to Central America. This species is usually found in rivers, streams, and ponds that have slow water flow and thick vegetation, which serve as both food and shelter. These habitats usually have dim light and soft water with a pH of slightly below seven.

In terms of size, males are around 2 cm long, while females measure nearly 3,5 cm. Neoheterandria elegans are active and relatively docile, but they cannot stay with other large or aggressive species. They seek the companionship of smaller and equally calm fishes and therefore are perfect for nano tanks or any small community.

They are omnivores, so feeding them should not be a problem since they can eat different types of foods that are easy to find in any aquariumstore.
