Neoheterandria elegans, or the Elegant Livebearer, is a tiny species of freshwater fish that is indigenous to Central America. This species is usually found in rivers, streams, and ponds that have slow water flow and thick vegetation, which serve as both food and shelter. These habitats usually have dim light and soft water with a pH of slightly below seven.
In terms of size, males are around 2 cm long, while females measure nearly 3,5 cm. Neoheterandria elegans are active and relatively docile, but they cannot stay with other large or aggressive species. They seek the companionship of smaller and equally calm fishes and therefore are perfect for nano tanks or any small community.
They are omnivores, so feeding them should not be a problem since they can eat different types of foods that are easy to find in any aquariumstore.
