Reminiscing about our eye-catching installation of Cees Van Rutten’s smaller, minimalistic works.

Each piece was crafted with high-quality thread, carefully wound around wooden block, a time-consuming method with premium material that is made to withstand the test of time, retaining its vibrant colour.

A more compact, yet equally impressive version of the installation is now on view in our permanent collection in Waregem.

Welcome to “In the Meantime”
A New Story at

After our previous exhibition, there was an unexpected void, a quiet stretch of time between shows.
That pause sparked an idea: to transform the gallery into a space for young artists to create, explore, and experiment freely within this unique setting.

I gave them full responsibility over both theme and style, deliberately removing any pressure to “stay within the lines”, something no real artist enjoys.
The gallery was open to them 24/7; they could come and go as they pleased, because we all know that making art isn’t a 9-to-5 job, especially not for young, emerging creators.

They had carte blanche in every sense, and I couldn’t be prouder of the result.
Their dedication and work ethic have been truly inspiring. In just under a month, they’ve filled the space with an energy and spirit that speaks for itself.

The exhibition’s style is best described as eclectic, a compelling mix of abstract expressionism, figurative work, audiovisual storytelling, and post-vandalism.
These diverse elements have come together in a way that feels organic, forming a striking and thought-provoking symbiosis.

Stray Gallery also provided the essentials: space, time and even our terrace, a place for conversations, collaboration, and casual hangouts.
This project gave them the freedom to create without limits, and what a freedom that is, no?

We also have a number of events planned in the coming weeks, which I’ll be sharing with you soon.

That being said, I warmly invite you to visit our newest show:

IN THE MEANTIME

For the past few weeks, we’ve been transforming the gallery into a space for experimentation and artistic development.

Working on-site, we’ve explored new directions, processes, and ideas, treating the space not just as a gallery, but as a living studio.
We’re now into the last week before opening, and are more than excited to show you what we have been up to!

On May 29th, from 14:00 onwards, we invite you to discover a unique presentation of the works created on-site, shown in dialogue with selected pieces from our featured artists.

Join us to experience this dynamic exchange, where process meets presentation, and experimentation meets curation.

Opening on Thursday, 29th of May
14:00 - end

Presented in our raw, industrial space, these meditative works, drawing from both Eastern and Western modernist traditions, find new resonance.
The subtle harmony with ‘s aluminum furniture design amplifies the quiet power of Chen’s serene compositions.

Bathed in natural light throughout the day, the installation offers a moment of stillness, a quiet dialogue between form, color, and atmosphere.

Outdoor set in brushed aluminum
Various dimensions

Today, we highlight our outdoor space, a pocket of tranquility nestled in the heart of Ghent.
It’s a quiet hideaway with a meditative presence, offering a moment of pause at the far end of the gallery.

When entering the space visitors gain a full overview of the exhibition, with two raised platforms leading to a terrace that evokes the calm of a Japanese garden.

For this space, Niels Raoul Boone created an outdoor set in brushed aluminum:
minimal, refined, and built for both solitude and gathering.
At its center lies a fire plate, designed to host the warmth of spring or summer evenings.

His furniture harmonizes beautifully with the raw, industrial character of the gallery, subtly enhancing the space without overpowering it.

Curious what we will bring to the table on our next exhibition?

- Vernissage on the 29th of May, starting at 2PM, mark your calendars!

Upon entering space, visitors are immediately greeted by the beautiful design of , a promising young designer known for his contemporary work with aluminum.
His creations blur the line between functional installation and modern decorative object.

These pieces, while grounded in daily utility, elevate their surroundings with sculptural presence and clean, innovative forms.

The undisputed centerpiece is the lighting: a contemporary reinterpretation of the chandelier.
These pieces not only illuminate the space, especially its darker corners, but also act as functional lighting for the artworks on display.
They create a subtle yet powerful dialogue between the art and the space.

Open Call - Residency until May 29th

📍Nederkouter 125, 9000 Gent

An ongoing artist-in-residence exhibition series in the heart of Ghent.

As our show came to a close last weekend, we realized we weren’t quite done with this space. Its potential continues to unfold and the energy from visitors made one thing clear:
people want more.
So, we’ve decided to stay just a little longer.

In this short window of time, we’re launching “In the Meantime”, an artist-in-residence series taking place between exhibitions.
During this period, the gallery becomes a working studio: a space of reflection, making, and temporary inhabitation.

We’re now inviting quick-working, fast-deciding artists to join us for a short-term residency (ending May 29).
You’ll be creating work on-site in the gallery, which will then become part of our next group exhibition, in collaboration with the selected artists from Stray Gallery.

This is a space for urgency, for process, for being present in the making. Visitors are invited to witness it all unfold, the fragments, the gestures, the transition from silence into form.

Each residency ends with an exhibition where the fresh work is shown publicly for the first time.

Applications are now open. (Limited places)

This is for the intuitive, the bold, the in-motion.
If that’s you - step in.

“Applied Anthropology”, 2025

Oil on linen

In Applied Anthropology, Nathan Joshua Bastien continues his ongoing critique of institutional authority and the historical misuse of science. The central image, a meticulously painted craniometer, has been directly lifted from a museum context, highlighting the way such instruments were once used in phrenology and racial science.
Though long discredited, these tools remain symbols of how empirical aesthetics can be twisted into ideological instruments.

Bastien juxtaposes this dark legacy with a small image of Miffy’s (Nijntje’s) decor.
This subtle inclusion introduces a note of childlike innocence, perhaps to underscore the fragility of perception and the ease with which ideology can mask itself as objectivity.
The work evokes a tension between the cold rationality of measurement and the naivety, or denial embedded in cultural memory.

Visit this work as we go into our last day of the exhibition.
