Van 19 tot en met 21 maart 2027 verandert Waregem opnieuw in een bruisende kunststad tijdens MAART Kunstroute. Op verschillende locaties ontdek je hedendaagse kunst in een inspirerend parcours doorheen de stad.

An offcut can become a useful part of the studio.

→ Test a colour combination.
→ See how a new medium behaves.
→ Try a mark before committing it to the actual work.
→ Keep it as a reference for later.

Not every piece of canvas needs to become a finished painting.
Some are there to help you make the next one.

There isn’t one universal tension that every artist needs.

Some prefer a very taut surface, others a little more give. What matters most is stretching it evenly and checking the surface as you work.

Corners last. Patience first. 😉

Sometimes the part of a painting we notice least is the part that changes most once it leaves the studio.

The edge.

Painted through, left raw, wrapped around the stretcher or hidden behind a frame... it can completely change how the work sits in a room.

A lot of restoration works are 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗮 𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘂𝗿𝘆 𝗼𝗹𝗱.

But conservators don’t only study the paint.
They also study the canvas. The weave. The fibres. The preparation.

Because the 𝙨𝙪𝙥𝙥𝙤𝙧𝙩 often tells as much about a painting as the image itself.

A painting can take months to complete.
The canvas takes time too.
Before it reaches an artist’s studio, it has already been 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗱, 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗱, 𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗺𝗲𝗱 and 𝗱𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗱.
Some oil-prepared canvases even spend nearly two weeks in the drying process before they’re ready! ⏳

It’s work that disappears beneath the paint.
Yet it influences every brushstroke that follows.
That’s been part of our craft 𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝟭𝟵𝟬𝟲. 👌

When people hear “120 years”, they often think about history.
We think about 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲.

Experience means:
✅ Knowing when an oil canvas needs more time to dry.
✅ Knowing why different painting techniques ask for different preparations.
✅ Knowing that small details in the production process often make the biggest difference once the painting is finished.

Those lessons weren’t learned overnight... They were built over generations.

We rarely know where each canvas will end up.
What we do know is that every artist deserves the same level of care before the first brushstroke is ever made.
