‘Corpographies’, the third solo show with Nathalie Pirotte at Husk Gallery in Rivoli Brussels up to 17 October 2026.

This week you are welcome on Thursday from 2 pm up to 8 pm, Friday & Saturday from 2 to 6 pm and also on Sunday from 2 to 6 pm, as we have extended opening hours on the occasion of the Brussels Rendez vous weekend.

‘Corpographies’ presents a new series of oil paintings by Belgian artist Nathalie Pirotte, rooted in her distinctive exploration of the body, identity, and desire. Pirotte now turns to the hands as expressive carriers of memory, intimacy, strength, and vulnerability. Pirotte’s ongoing exploration of the body as a painterly language continues, revealing the expressive potential of the hand and its gestures. Her work invites us to both reflect on and discover the unique realm of the painting medium.

Nathalie Pirotte (°1965, Albertville) is a Belgian painter who lives and works in Brussels. She completed her Master in Painting and 3D Research in La Cambre, Brussels. In the past years her work has featured in solo shows in Belgium, Luxembourg and Germany. In 2020 Husk Gallery presented Pretty Chimeras, her inaugural solo exhibition at the gallery, followed by the second solo Mêmetés in 2023. In 2023, her extensive solo show Montré-Caché was on view in the Alter Schlachthof in Eupen. She has also taken part in numerous group exhibitions in Belgium and abroad. Her work can be found in the following collections: Communauté française de Belgique, Unisys, BSB (B), Town of Ettelbruck (GDL), City of Dudelange (GDL), City of Luxembourg (GDL), Sanrio (It) and in private collections in Europe, the United States and Australia. Since 1995, Nathalie Pirotte is a painting professor at the Arlon Academy of Fine Arts in Luxembourg, Belgium.

Corpographies presents a new series of paintings by Nathalie Pirotte. For a long time, the gaze of Nathalie Pirotte’s figures remained concealed in her body of work. Their faces were obscured or disrupted by paint, masking, and hybrid imagery. This recurring gesture shifted attention away from the face and towards the body as a site of identity, seduction, and painterly construction. In Corpographies, that attention shifts to the hands. Hands remember, desire, protect, and tell stories. In powerful female figures and a series of small circular paintings, a silent language of gestures and touch unfolds. Hands become new carriers of identity and expression — gestures through which desire, intimacy, strength, and vulnerability are articulated, extending Nathalie Pirotte’s ongoing exploration of the body as painterly language.

‘Happiness is Easy’ by Norwegian artist Hanne Lydia Opøien Figenschou is closing this Saturday 27 June 2026!
Welcome at Husk Gallery from 2 to 6pm.

On the occasion of the closing day the catalogue of the eponymous drawing series will be available.

Her second solo exhibition in Brussels features her new series of drawings, created between 2024 and 2026. Titled ‘Happiness is Easy’, the drawings explore the duality of happiness in relation to contemporary global realities, reflecting the tension between external events and internal states. The artist invites viewers to engage with the implicit ideologies embedded within the images, questioning how notions of happiness in Norway and beyond are constructed, mediated, and experienced.

On the occasion of the closing day of Hanne Lydia’s eponymous exhibition the book is available at the gallery or can be ordered: softcover, 21x21cm,40p, edited by Husk Gallery, limited edition 50 copies – 15€

Hanne Lydia Opøien Figenschou (b1964, Trondheim) is a Norwegian artist who lives and works in Oslo and Tromsø. Over the years, she has created a body of work consisting of drawings, videos and prose with recurring motifs and thematic cross-references. She explores themes such as gender and identity, violence in close relationships, the self-portrait, tourism, feminism, abortion, happiness and shame. She is renowned for her trompe l’oeil drawing technique using coloured pencils on black paper.

The catalogue presents her latest series, titled ‘Happiness is Easy’, created between 2024 and 2026. The drawings explore the duality of happiness in relation to contemporary global realities, reflecting the tension between external events and internal states. The artist invites viewers to engage with the implicit ideologies embedded within the images and to question how notions of happiness in Norway and beyond are constructed, mediated and experienced.

The accompanying text is written by Ingrid Van Hecke - art historian and gallery director of Husk Gallery, based in Brussels with a strong focus on drawing.

‘Happiness is Easy’, the second solo show with Norwegian artist Hanne Lydia Opøien Figenschou is now on view at Husk Gallery in Rivoli Brussels up to 27 June 2026.

In her new drawing series, Hanne Lydia continues to explore a wide range of sensitive contemporary themes that evoke mixed feelings. Her works are based on personal experience, leading to contemporary drawing functioning as a space in which individual and collective imagery converge. In her artistic oeuvre, she confronts challenging themes with directness. Her subjects are drawn from her immediate surroundings, which are a source of happiness, vulnerability and critique.

Some of the drawings like Ptsd in Backyardview feature a specific word.
HLOF about this work: “In the drawing Backyardview, the word PTSD dominates. It struck me one day, looking out onto my backyard, that no one knows how many people carry the diagnosis behind closed curtains.”

Ptsd: Post-traumatic stress disorder is an emotional condition that can arise after experiencing or witnessing a traumatic event involving actual or threatened death or serious injury. This event typically evokes intense feelings of fear, helplessness, or horror.

Hanne Lydia Opøien Figenschou about her new series and eponymous solo show ‘Happiness is easy’:

“We are surrounded by extreme impressions. In the spaces between are the small details. The moves you make, consciously or unconsciously, to keep this at bay. For a short while. What you can’t do anything about. The drawings, all works from 2024 to 2026, currently determine their own visual directions and form stories that are as incoherent as scattered thoughts.”
