✨ What a wonderful day at Create with Kokoro! ✨

The morning was dedicated to sashiko, where participants discovered the beauty of this traditional Japanese embroidery technique. 🪡🇯🇵

In the afternoon, I opened my pop-up studio, welcoming visitors to explore my creations, get inspired, and share a love for handmade crafts in the beautiful setting of .together in Ghent. 🌿✨

A special thank you to .gent for the delicious bento lunches that kept everyone energized throughout the day. 🍱💛

I would also like to thank everyone who joined the workshop, visited the studio, stopped by for a chat, or supported me throughout the day. Your enthusiasm made this first edition truly special. ❤️

And the journey doesn't stop here! 🎉 I'm excited to announce that the next edition of Create with Kokoro is already planned for October. More details will follow soon, and I can't wait to welcome you again.

🌸 Wist je dat...? 🌸

Dit prachtige patroon heet Ajisai Sashi (あじさい刺し), vernoemd naar de ajisai of hortensia. De kleine stervormige steken vormen samen een patroon dat doet denken aan de vele bloemetjes waaruit een hortensiabol is opgebouwd.

In Japan staan hortensia's symbool voor de regentijd en bloeien ze uitbundig in juni. Daarom zijn ze een geliefd motief in traditionele kunst en handwerken.

Er zijn nog enkele plaatsen beschikbaar voor mijn Ajisai Sashi workshop in de Japanse Tuinen van Hasselt! Tijdens de workshop ontdek je de magie van deze bijzondere sashiko-techniek.

🌸 Did you know...? 🌸

This beautiful pattern is called Ajisai Sashi (あじさい刺し), named after the ajisai, or hydrangea. The small star-shaped stitches come together to create a design reminiscent of the many tiny flowers that form a hydrangea bloom.

In Japan, hydrangeas are closely associated with the rainy season and reach their peak bloom in June. This is why they are such a beloved motif in traditional arts and crafts.

Altijd al willen kennismaken met de prachtige Japanse borduurkunst sashiko? Dit is je kans!

Op 13 juni organiseer ik een gezellige ochtend vol creativiteit tijdens Create with Kokoro. Je leert de basis van sashiko en gaat naar huis met je eigen handgemaakte creatie.

En omdat creativiteit hongerig maakt, sluiten we af met een heerlijke Japanse bento lunch, verzorgd door Gohan. 🍱

Kodomo no Hi 🎏 fijne kinderdag aan alle kinderen ❤️

Vandaag is het Kinderdag in Japan, een dag waarop kinderen centraal staan en hun geluk en toekomst gevierd worden.

De kleurrijke koinobori (karpervlaggen) staan symbool voor kracht en doorzettingsvermogen, eigenschappen die we elk kind toewensen.

Voor mij is het extra bijzonder om deze traditie te delen met Haru, hier in België, en zo een stukje Japan levend te houden.

Doorheen dit jaar deel ik meer van deze tradities in het kader van 160 jaar vriendschap tussen België en Japan, telkens vertaald naar verhalen en creativiteit binnen Kokoro Creations.

Kodomo no Hi 🎏 happy children's day to all kids ❤️

Today is Children’s Day in Japan, a day dedicated to celebrating children and wishing them happiness and a bright future.

The colorful koinobori (carp streamers) symbolize strength and perseverance, qualities we wish for every child.

For me, it’s especially meaningful to share this tradition with Haru here in Belgium, and to keep a piece of Japan alive.

Throughout this year, I’ll be sharing more of these traditions in celebration of 160 years of friendship between Belgium and Japan, translated into stories and creativity through Kokoro Creations.

Heb je zin in een momentje voor jezelf?
Even vertragen, creëren, en iets moois mee naar huis nemen?

Tijdens deze workshop leer je de Japanse vlechttechniek kumihimo, een eeuwenoude techniek waarbij je met draad prachtige koorden maakt.

Kumihimo is niet alleen creatief, maar ook verrassend ontspannend. Ideaal om even uit de drukte te stappen en iets met je handen te doen.

Jaren geleden maakte ik deze tasjes voor mijn bruidsmeisjes, als een klein maar persoonlijk gebaar van dankbaarheid voor hun vriendschap. 💕
Met de hand genaaid, elk met hun naam… en vooral met veel betekenis.

Voor mij zit vriendschap in die kleine, zorgzame dingen die je maakt voor iemand anders.
