Espace MOSS

Espace MOSS Espace Moss is an immersive, performative and independent exhibition space in Brussels.

espace moss is an independent exhibition space in Brussels, founded by Moussa Cheniguel with the aim of fostering the development of immersive and in-situ installations. The project actuates oscillating events within one habitus, combining three components to create an overall framework: the place of the exhibition, the role of the spectator, and the experience of a haircut. By establishing a cont

ext for the intertwining of these subjects, a process of decompartmentalization transpires. By removing the clutter of services typically associated with hairstyling, keeping only the essential - the haircut - and by doing so, room is made for the invaluable exchange between the work and those who activate it. The set is continuously filmed and broadcasted through live streaming, creating an ongoing digital performance.

Moussa

Olivier Stévenart

‘Spiegel Lieben’, 2020, plaster.

This piece made out of plaster represents an empty beveled mirror frame. The reflection is removed and unveils the artwork that stands behind. In that way, ‘Spiegel Lieben’ operates as an allegory of the Espace Moss concept.

Eva L'Hoest , 'Vertices Vertigo A58' (details) plaster, wax, 74 x 104 cm, 2018⠀

As part of 'Nūbēs' by Raphaël Lecoquierre at Espace Moss

This piece is the result of a partnership with the Sirris research center and uses a digital hand drawing made from a color photograph taken by the artist as a starting point. In this work, Eva L’Hoest, revisits the Z-Corp print technology, a 3D printing technique that consists of building up industrial objects from many thin cross sections. An inkjet-like printing head moves across a bed of powder, selectively depositing a liquid binding material in the shape of the section. A fresh layer of powder is spread across the top of the model, and the process is repeated. Here, the printer is manually stopped during the printing process and the piece is partially revealed by the artist, creating a ‘freeze-frame’ within the printing operation itself. The residual powder from the print reservoir, known as the “Powder Bed”, can still be seen on the surface of the piece. The visual manipulation provokes a loss of information, used by the artist as an essential component in the creation of this ephemeral and haptic bas-relief. ⠀

Eva L’Hoest, 'Vertices Vertigo A58', plaster, wax, 74 x 104 cm, 2018

We are thrilled to annonce that Eva l'Hoest is taking part of 'Nūbēs' by Raphaël Lecoquierre at Espace Moss.

Her work focuses primarily on the exploration of memory and its strange and minute lingering reality. She tracks the often blurred and non-specific ways in which reminiscence appears. Working on the outer edge of perception where it becomes affect and emotion; starting out with accidents of light like “the operator of a memory who interprets, distorts selects or sometimes saturates and alters the images”. Piece by piece, the artist appropriates contemporary technology to reveal both their nature as prosthesis for capturing the world and their potential as an artistic medium. Her work defines “a single plastic modality which is that of a clouded form, a migratory form, as if the subjects in question had all been taken in a transitory state between construction and deconstruction, reconstruction and erasure”.
