For Spazio Nobile’s 10th anniversary, philosopher and visual artist Benoît Maire and scenographer Marie Corbin turn the fleeting moment of a “crush” into a meditation on art, objects, and the gaze. When the gesture becomes abstract, a language, a calligraphy….

French artist Fabienne Verdier has been selected to showcase the results of a nearly two-year collaboration with the Sèvres Manufacture/Manufactures Nationales at the Grand Palais, during Fine Arts Paris with the support of AXA.

"Following experiments with the rounded forms of the *Diane* dinner service, the work on Pierre Charpin’s vases raises different questions. Here, painting moves off the flat plane to engage with three-dimensional form. It must follow a curve, vanish behind a shape, and reappear elsewhere. The gesture can no longer be grasped in a single glance; one must walk around the object to experience its continuity.

In both instances, the pre-existing form is not merely a surface to be painted upon. It actively shapes the painting and compels the gesture to reinvent itself.

Much of the European ceramic tradition has been built upon a relationship with figuration, ornamentation, and the representation of the visible world. My approach explores a different path: that of abstract, spontaneous expression, where the gesture becomes a form of writing," states Fabienne Verdier.
⁠
"It is a writing of flows, instabilities, and transformations—one that seeks not to represent reality, but to evoke the forces within it. It also stems from a form of introspection: a poetic interpretation of the world that, through the gesture, meets the movements of the material itself," she concludes.

The 2nd edition of Craft x Tech curated by Maria Cristina Didero and Tangent was presented at the V&A during London Design Festival 2026, and featured six new collaborations pairing Tokai artisans with international designers and artists. Together, they explored new creative possibilities and produced contemporary works that celebrate the continuing relevance of traditional craftsmanship. On the front picture Bethan Laura Wood

"The work of the ten selected participating designers this year carry forms of tacit, sometimes esoteric knowledge – knowledge embedded in the hand, the body and the material itself,” say Christian and Jade, curators of The Mindcraft Exhibition, which opened on September 23 and is on view through the 27th.
