À Manhattan, sur la 28e Rue Ouest, il y a 100 ans, se trouvait une rangée d’immeubles abritant de minuscules salles équipées de pianos. Des sons métalliques résonnaient jusque dans la rue : c’était le « tin pan » de Tin Pan Alley.
Ce pâté de maisons devint le centre de l’industrie musicale américaine. Éditeurs, compositeurs et interprètes s’y rassemblaient pour promouvoir la musique populaire.
Célébrez l’âge d’or de la création mélodique, lorsque des compositeurs tels qu’Arlen, Berlin, Gershwin, Kern, Porter et bien d’autres écrivaient des standards de jazz. Ils ont créé des chansons emblématiques pour le vaudeville, la comédie musicale et Hollywood, contribuant à définir un siècle du Great American Songbook.

In Manhattan on West 28 Street, 100 years ago, there was a row of modest brick buildings with tiny piano rooms where music collided through thin walls. Pianos clattered and competing melodies filled the air. Clashing tones could be heard from the street. It was the clanging “tin pan” sound of Tin Pan Alley.
This noisy block became the center of the American music industry where publishers, songwriters, and performers worked and promoted popular music. “Tribute to Tin Pan Alley” celebrates the golden age of melody-making when Arlen, Berlin, Gershwin, Kern, Porter, and others composed iconic jazz tunes that helped define a century of the Great American Songbook.
