Sunday is design day at DR Bonsai Tables

Today I’m working with pencil and paper to develop a new design.Every bonsai table begins as a full-scale drawing (1:1). This allows me to carefully check the proportions and ensure the table is in harmony with the bonsai tree and the client’s pot.

It’s a quiet but essential part of the process — this is where balance and character are established before the woodwork begins.

Every table starts with attention, patience, and respect for the tree.

With great pride, I would like to present a new project within DR Bonsai Tables: a traditional Japanese Tokonoma, fully designed and crafted by us.

This project had been in my thoughts for a long time. It was an idea and a vision I had carried with me for years, but only now did I have the time to truly bring it to life. The result is a space that perfectly reflects the philosophy and character of our work.

The Tokonoma holds a special place in Japanese culture—a space where beauty, harmony, and respect for the object are central. Inspired by this philosophy, we created this Tokonoma as a dignified setting for the bonsai tables that we carefully craft for our customers.

This space has a double purpose for us.
On one hand, we use the Tokonoma to photograph our tables in the proper atmosphere and context. On the other hand, it is also a warm and authentic place where customers are welcome to personally collect their commissioned table.

We would also like to mention that it is possible to order a traditional Japanese Tokonoma from DR Bonsai Tables, designed and built entirely to your wishes and specifications.

It gives me great satisfaction when an intensive and thoughtful collaboration results in real success. Last weekend at the Trophy, Mark and Ritta received the wonderful news that their Carpinus Koreanum was awarded Best Deciduous Tree — a truly well-deserved recognition.

At DR Bonsai Tables, I always work from one clear vision: creating perfect harmony between tree and table. When both elements enhance one another, the presentation rises to an exceptional level.

The awarded tree is of outstanding quality. The credit first and foremost belongs to Mark and Ritta themselves. Their tree has gone through an impressive journey and, thanks to their dedication, expertise, and attentive care, has developed into a true top-level bonsai.

This achievement once again highlights how essential a carefully considered presentation is. The right table does more than support a tree — it respects its character, strengthens its presence, and elevates it to where it truly belongs.

The Trophy 2026 has come to an end — and what an incredible edition it was!
It was truly great to reconnect with old friends and meet many new ones.

Once again, DR Bonsai Tables had the honor of being part of an award-winning tree. I’ll be sharing more about that in a dedicated post in the coming days — stay tuned!

A very special thank you goes to my father. None of this would be possible without him. He is always there to help and to make sure everything is perfectly prepared and ready on time. I know how fortunate I am to have such an amazing father by my side.

I would also like to thank my loyal friend Bart. Since day one, he has supported and encouraged me. Once again, he generously invested his time to help me at the show. That truly means a lot. Thank you, Bart!
