🎭✨ Our 2026–2027 Season Has Been Revealed! ✨🎭

Photos by Karen Steed

Last Sunday, performers, families, volunteers, and community members gathered at the SHAPE Performing Arts Centre for an evening of karaoke, surprises, laughter, and the unveiling of our upcoming season.

The event wasn’t just about announcing shows—it was a celebration of the community that continues to make this theatre such a special place. Students, parents, volunteers, and performers of all ages took the stage to help reveal the productions that will make up our next year together.

We’re excited to officially share the 2026–2027 season for both the SHAPE Players Performing Arts Centre and the SHAPE Performing Arts School.

🎭 SHAPE PLAYERS PERFORMING ARTS CENTRE

The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged)

All 37 of Shakespeare’s plays. One evening. Endless laughter.

This fast-paced comedy condenses the entire Shakespeare canon into a whirlwind of outrageous characters, lightning-fast costume changes, audience interaction, and theatrical chaos. Directed by Jennifer Workman, this community production invites performers from across SHAPE to come together for an evening of joyful theatrical mayhem that both celebrates and pokes fun at the world’s most famous playwright.

Red Velvet

Inspired by the true story of Ira Aldridge, the first Black actor to play Othello on a major London stage, Red Velvet explores race, representation, artistic excellence, and the transformative power of theatre itself.

Powerful, thought-provoking, and deeply relevant, this remarkable drama continues our commitment to presenting theatre that entertains, challenges, and sparks meaningful conversation.

One-Act Festival Program

Youth (Ages 8–18) & Adult Productions

One of the most exciting opportunities in our season returns as both our Youth and Adult One-Act productions take center stage.

The Youth One-Act will be limited to 45 minutes, while the Adult One-Act will be limited to 60 minutes, with both productions selected later in the season. These focused, high-energy works provide performers with the opportunity to tackle challenging material, develop ensemble skills, and create theatre designed not only for SHAPE audiences, but for audiences beyond our community.

Following their performances here at the SHAPE Performing Arts Centre, both productions will travel to Germany to participate in the Tournament of Plays, giving our actors and creative teams the chance to represent SHAPE alongside theatre programs from across the region.

Whether you’re a student looking for a new challenge or an adult performer eager to create ambitious work in an intimate format, the One-Act Festival Program offers a unique opportunity to build something exceptional and take it beyond our stage.

Mamma Mia!

A mother’s past. A daughter’s future. Three possible fathers.

Featuring the unforgettable music of ABBA, Mamma Mia! follows Sophie Sheridan as she secretly invites three men from her mother’s past to her wedding in hopes of discovering which one is her father.

This community production will bring together performers from across SHAPE while also incorporating a teen ensemble and opportunities for younger performers to portray some of the principal roles, creating a truly multi-generational theatrical experience.

🎭 SHAPE PERFORMING ARTS SCHOOL

Fractured Fairytales

Ages 5–7

For years, families have asked for more opportunities for our youngest performers—and we’re thrilled to finally make that wish a reality.

Fractured Fairytales introduces children ages 5–7 to the joy of theatre through imagination, storytelling, and playful performance. Many of our current students who now perform in larger productions first discovered theatre through programs just like this one. Its return has been one of the most frequently requested additions to our programming, and we’re excited to open the curtain for a new generation of young storytellers.

Shrek Jr.

Primarily Ages 8–12

Based on the beloved DreamWorks film, Shrek Jr. follows an unlikely hero who discovers that what makes us different is often what makes us special.

Designed primarily for performers ages 8–12, this production may be expanded to include some older performers depending on enrollment and casting needs, helping us create the strongest possible ensemble while opening additional opportunities for students.

The Best Christmas Pageant Ever

Ages 8–18

The Herdmans are absolutely the worst kids in town. When they unexpectedly take over the annual Christmas pageant, the entire community prepares for disaster.

What follows is one of the funniest and most heartwarming holiday stories ever written. This production will bring together performers ages 8–18 and will be led by the creative team behind this year’s acclaimed production of Six: Teen Edition—Directors Kollin Claussen and Olivia Mulholland, Choreographer Alexandra Wright, and Music Director Emily Holland.

❤️ Thank You

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us on Sunday, volunteered, performed, sang karaoke songs they didn’t know they were about to sing, helped organize the event, and continues to support theatre at SHAPE.

Whether you’re joining us for the first time or have been part of this community for years, we’re excited about what lies ahead.

The stage is set. The season is announced.

Now the adventure begins.

🎭✨ See you at the theatre. ✨🎭

🎭 Curious About What’s Happening at the SHAPE Performing Arts Centre?

Over the past year, I’ve heard the same question again and again:

“Wait… we have a live theatre?”

The answer is yes. And more importantly—it’s your theatre.

If you’ve ever wondered what happens inside Building 207, how our programs work, why we support both youth and adult theatre, how students get involved, what our volunteers do, or what we’ve accomplished during the past season, I recently had the opportunity to share those thoughts in an article for SHAPE Community Life Magazine.

The article looks back on my first year as Artistic Director, highlights the incredible work of our students, volunteers, performers, families, and community members, and explores why the theatre exists as a place for creativity, education, connection, and belonging.

It also includes a look at our recent season, our Europe-wide recognition at TOPPERS, the growth of our programs, and where we’re headed next.

Whether you’re a longtime supporter, a curious newcomer, a parent considering classes, or someone who has walked past the building and wondered what goes on inside, I hope you’ll give it a read.

🎭 Community Theatre. Shared Stories. Stronger Together.

And if you learn one thing from the article, let it be this:

Yes. We have a live theatre. And it belongs to all of us. ❤️

👑🎤 The Queens Hit the Streets! 🎤👑

Thursday, some of our incredible SIX: Teen Edition cast members took over outside Silver Spoon Café, helping sell tickets, meet community members, and spread the word about our closing weekend performances!

Even better, thanks to the generosity of supporters in our community, we’ve now collected more than 20 donated tickets that we’ll be giving away free to local teens and families who might not otherwise have the chance to attend.

Want one? Stop by the SHAPE Performing Arts Centre (Building 207) during box office hours and ask what’s available. We’ll continue distributing donated tickets on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last.

If you’ve been waiting to see what everyone has been talking about, now is the time. Audiences have been raving about this production, and these final performances are your last chance to catch the queens live!

👑 A Royal Thank You from the Queens! 👑

Today, members of our Six: Teen Edition cast spent time at the Silver Spoon selling tickets, meeting community members, and helping spread the word about our final weekend of performances.

Thanks to the generosity of those who stopped by our ticket sale and donation table today, 20 tickets have been donated so that teenagers in our community can attend Six: Teen Edition free of charge.

🎟 20 Free Teen Tickets Available 🎟

These donated tickets will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis to teenagers who would like to attend one of our remaining performances.

To claim a ticket, simply stop by:

📍 SHAPE Performing Arts Centre – Building 207
🕑 Office Hours: 2:00 PM – 6:00 PM

Any remaining tickets may also be claimed at the theatre on the day of a performance.

No contest. No application. Just a wonderful act of generosity from members of our community who wanted to help make live theatre accessible to more young people.

We are deeply grateful to everyone who purchased tickets, made donations, and supported our students today. Your kindness will allow 20 teenagers to experience this production completely free of charge.

👑 The Queens will also be back at the Silver Spoon this Thursday from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM selling tickets and accepting additional donations. If enough support comes in, we would love to make even more tickets available to young people in our community.

Six: Teen Edition closes this weekend, and audiences have been giving the show an incredible response. If you know a teenager who would enjoy an afternoon or evening at the theatre, please help us spread the word.

Thank you for helping us make the arts accessible to all.

🎤👑 A Note from the Artistic Director 👑🎤

Today was one of the most extraordinary days I have witnessed during my first year leading the SHAPE Performing Arts School.

This afternoon's performance of Six: Teen Edition nearly didn't happen.

Just hours before curtain, Alyssa Claussen lost her voice. Then Eliza Gomlak lost hers as well.

Faced with the reality that two of our six queens were suddenly unable to perform, I made the difficult decision to begin preparations to cancel the show.

What I did not know at the time was that Olivia Mulholland already knew the role of Jane Seymour.

Olivia called me and challenged my decision.

Speaking both as a co-director of the production and as the actor playing Anne Boleyn, she passionately argued that we owed it to the audience, the cast, and the families who had supported this production to do everything possible to give them a show. She informed me that she knew the role and was prepared to step into Jane Seymour if necessary.

That phone call changed the course of the day.

Emily Holland stepped into the role of Catherine of Aragon for Alyssa Claussen.

Olivia Mulholland stepped into the role of Jane Seymour for Eliza Gomlak.

Ayumi Evangelista stepped into the role of Anna of Cleves for Abi Butcher as planned.

Charlie Alvarez stepped into the role of Anne Boleyn as planned.

While Ayumi and Charlie already knew they would be performing today, Emily and Olivia found themselves facing extraordinary circumstances that would have rattled many seasoned performers. Instead, they rose to the challenge.

With only a few hours before curtain, these young artists came together, rehearsed, supported one another, and somehow accomplished what seemed impossible that morning.

I could not be more proud.

I also want to recognize the leadership shown by our teen directing team. Kolin Claussen and Olivia Mulholland demonstrated remarkable maturity, focus, and calm under pressure while helping guide the company through an incredibly difficult day.

Alexandra Wright deserves special recognition as well. Her leadership in the rehearsal room today was invaluable. She remained calm, positive, focused, and encouraging throughout the day while helping the company navigate challenge after challenge. She and Milena Caluag also gave incredible performances today.

And I want to recognize every student working behind the scenes. The stage management team, technicians, crew members, and student leaders who often go unseen played a critical role in making sure this performance happened. Theatre is a team sport, and today's success belonged to all of them.

What impresses me most is that Six was already a remarkable achievement before today. This production was conceived, led, and largely managed by teens. These students have not simply been performers. They have been directors, choreographers, leaders, problem-solvers, mentors, and artists.

The audience saw a performance this afternoon.

What I saw was a group of young people demonstrating resilience, professionalism, courage, and leadership far beyond their years.

We've been receiving rave reviews from audiences throughout the run, and today's crowd was no exception. People had a wonderful time watching the show and celebrating with us afterward.

But here's the remarkable thing:

As strong as these performances have been, audiences still haven't seen this company at 100%.

Illness has affected several members of the cast throughout the run, and today's performance required extraordinary last-minute adjustments from everyone involved.

So if you joined us this weekend and had a great time, imagine what these young artists can do after a week of rest, recovery, and preparation.

The queens return next weekend, and I hope you'll come see them.

To every performer, every student leader, every crew member, every volunteer, every parent, and every supporter who helped make today possible: thank you.

And to the Teen Company of SHAPE Performing Arts School:

Today you didn't just put on a show.

You demonstrated what leadership looks like.

I could not be more impressed.

👑✨ OPENING NIGHT OF SIX: TEEN EDITION! ✨👑

Tonight, the queens took the stage.

Months of rehearsals, choreography, vocal work, costume fittings, line runs, laughter, nerves, and determination all came together as our incredible cast officially opened SIX: Teen Edition at the SHAPE Performing Arts Centre.

The first photo captures our full company—an extraordinary group of young artists, musicians, student leaders, technicians, and creative collaborators who have poured their hearts into this production.

The second photo introduces a very special royal court: the Queen Mothers. Behind every queen is a parent, caregiver, chauffeur, costume helper, schedule juggler, line-listener, emotional support specialist, and occasional miracle worker. Theatre is a family affair, and we're grateful for every one of them.

(And before anyone asks—yes, we granted Perlita Simmons temporary Queen Mother status for the evening. Royal decree.)

And we're just getting started.

🎤 TOMORROW AFTERNOON'S PERFORMANCE IS OUR SPECIAL SING-ALONG PERFORMANCE! 🎤

Whether you've already seen the show or are joining us for the first time, tomorrow is your chance to sing along with your favorite songs, cheer for your favorite queens, and become part of the concert experience.

❤️ Six queens.
🎶 One unforgettable pop concert.
👑 An amazing company of young performers.
🎤 A sing-along event you won't want to miss.

Come join the court.

Opening Night Post

👑⚡ OPENING NIGHT IS HERE. ⚡👑

Tonight, Six: Teen Edition takes the stage at the SHAPE Performing Arts Centre.

What makes this production special isn't just the incredible talent you'll see under the lights—it's the fact that this show has been built, shaped, and led by students.

This Teen Project entrusted young artists with responsibilities that extend far beyond performing. Students have helped direct, choreograph, produce, organize, paint scenery, build transitions, solve problems, support one another, and bring an ambitious vision to life.

Over the past weeks, they've transformed empty rehearsal halls into a concert arena, turned ideas into reality, and discovered what it means to lead a production—not just participate in one.

Tonight, six queens tell their stories.

But behind those queens stands an entire team of young artists who have poured their creativity, courage, and hard work into every moment you'll see on stage.

We're incredibly proud of what they've accomplished.

Now it's time to raise the lights, turn up the music, and let them shine.

🎭👑 Tomorrow, they open. 👑🎭

One of the things that has made Six: Teen Edition special isn’t just what you’ll see onstage—it’s what has happened behind the scenes.

This production is being led by a remarkable team of students who aren’t only performing. They have been directing scenes, choreographing numbers, helping produce the show, selling tickets, organizing rehearsals, painting scenery, moving platforms, hanging decorations, solving problems, and helping bring this entire production to life.

Over the past few days, the theatre has been filled with paint-covered hands, late rehearsals, costume fittings, laughter, music, ladders, power tools, and a lot of determination. These students have taken ownership of this project in a way that goes far beyond learning lines and choreography.

What you’re about to see is the result of young artists trusting one another, supporting one another, and creating something together.

Tomorrow night, the lights come up.

The crowns go on.

And this extraordinary group of student leaders takes the stage.

We’re incredibly proud of them.

🎟 Six: Teen Edition opens tomorrow at the SHAPE Performing Arts Centre.

Come celebrate the work, talent, and dedication of these young artists—and help us give them the audience they deserve.
