Love, Solitude and Box(es) is a solo theatrical performance about otherness, loneliness and struggles where the corporality, the space, the dance and the music will be the main tools of expression for the performer. Frederico Araujo uses the specificities of the location to explore and expose sensitive themes of his biography, such as: being an immigrant in Europe; memories of an ex-love; and t

he daily obligation to always be wary when he is perceived as an outsider in a racist, xenophobic and homophobic society. The performer takes the audience with him through his life while his body dances, sings and laughs at his open wounds. Love, Solitude and Box(es) is an attempt to show Frederico Araujo in his entirety, in this catalogue of pains and possible healing. Meet Kristien De Proost!

Kristien De Proost is a Belgian actress and theatre maker. After getting her Master Toneel at the Studio Herman Teirlinck in Antwerp, she has worked freelance at Het Toneelhuis, CAMPO, Bronks and LOD. She was part of the artistic core of the Brussels theatre collective Tristero, where she created her first solo performance (Toestand), which has toured worldwide since.
In addition to her own trajectory as a maker, she works as a performer with directors and artists such as Julian Hetzel, Milo Rau and Bosse Provoost, and she had even starred in a few movies and TV series.

With her knowledge and experience she had been a great addition to the team as a coach! She helped Frederico find his path in this performance, by asking the right questions and offering different points of view.

We want to thank Kristien for the brilliant coaching, leading up to the upcoming performance!

Meet Ruben Bongaerts!

Ruben Bongaerts is a 22 year old student who is currently studying at RITCS to become a stage technician. As a musician he was always interested in making soundscapes and sound installations, which led him to sound design, and eventually to Love, Solitude and Box(es)!

He felt drawn to the project as soon as he heard that Frederico wanted to use sound as one of his primary tools. Together they have collaborated to figure out how they can use sound as a way of storytelling, and we are very excited to show you all of their hard work on May 30th & 31st!

Meet Ine Roeder!

Ine is a student in her last year of stage technics at RITCS. She has always loved the technical side of theatre, but recently she became more interested in the artistic side, such as scenography and light design. Trying to make the technical aspect and the creative meet on stage, and inherently bringing a story to life, is what motivates her. This is what she aimed to create with her scenography design within Love, Solitude and Box(es)!

Ine and Frederico have previously worked together, which helped her understand his vision and bring it to life as she loves to do! We are so excited for you to witness what they created!

Meet Mike Neyens!

Mike is responsible for the production of the play and currently finishing his Bachelor in Stage Management at RITCS. As a trained musician, he is interested in projects that use music or sound as an integral part of the performance, this drew him to be a part of Love, Solitude and Box(es).

Mike is a dedicated worker, focused on the goal to give you guys the best performance ever! Come and meet him at the première!

Frederico Araujo is a Brazilian actor graduated at UNIRIO/Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. In 2020 started his Master in Theater - Directing - at RITCS where his research is still ongoing in Brussels.

He is a complex artist in (eternal) formation who has pursued theater, and been in/created more than 15 shows between Brazil and Belgium. He also accumulates experiences in dance, circus, performance and teaching theater and dance.

His first creation in Brussels took place in 2013 for the show Burning, directed by Frédéric Dussenne in co-production with Rideau de Bruxelles. Rêves de papier (2020) with Cie. tangentes is his second show in Belgium.

Since 2021 he has been a theatre and dance teacher at La Roseraie. He is also one of the artists invited to develop a community co-creation in Wolubilis in the project Homelands, places of belonging at the initiative of the International Yehudi Menuhin Foundation. In september 2022 he has something new coming up: In the Middle of Nowhere, in colaboration with Kristien De Proost and production by CAMPO victoria.

Love Solitude and Box(es) is part of his Master research as theater director at RITCS.

Welcome to Love, Solitude and Box(es)!

With this solo theatrical performance we invite you to step into Frederico’s world, and experience his laughter, pain and struggles of not fitting into an increasingly polarised society. On this page you can follow the process until the big performance on the 30th and 31st of May, at Recyclart in Molenbeek.
