These newly glazed ceramic pieces (breakfast bowls, plates, and mugs) have just emerged from the kiln after reaching a peak temperature of 1240°C. The high-temperature firing has allowed the glaze to fully mature and melt, creating a smooth and glossy finish. Each piece is a perfect example of how glaze chemistry and kiln firing techniques come together to create durable, functional, and beautiful ceramics.

Taking a peek into the studio today, these breakfast bowls and plates have just been thrown on the wheel and are now in the drying phase. They will remain here for a few days to slowly dry out before bisque firing. This batch is being made in a mixed clay body, which will produce those rich, earthy tones once fired. The clay blend is key to achieving the desired aesthetic, and the drying stage is vital to avoid any warping or cracking before the first firing. These pieces are being prepared for the March online release, and I’m excited to see how the glazes interact with the natural clay after the glaze firing.

This afternoon, we glazed a few more pieces for Studio Marver! They’re now drying by the stove. Just a few more kiln firings, and then we’re ready for the online sale!

On the wall, you can spot wall sculptures by Ruben Martyn, inspired by architectural details from everyday street scenes.

The reclaimed clay is processed into a beautiful homogeneous mass with the ideal density. The color result of this mix, once it is baked at a high temperature, is still unknown. we are curious to see the first results.

30kg of leftover clay was soaked in water over the past few days, this is the result: a beautiful mix of different types of clay. Are you as curious as I am about what color result this clay will give? We will soon start processing this clay for our next sales opportunity in February.

The next step is to wedge the clay to remove the air bubbles and ensure a homogenous mass.
