Elia Claessen (Leuven, 1997) stu­deer­de Interieurvormgeving aan het KASK in Gent waar­na een bache­lor in Mixed media aan LUCA School of Arts. Na haar stu­dies dook ze onder in film­pro­duc­tie om en liep ze sta­ge om zich te ver­die­pen in de gelaagd­heid van het filmmaken.

"Landschap, natuur en archi­tec­tuur zijn de terug­ke­ren­de ele­men­ten in Frances’ werk, dat thema’s als ruim­te en de maak­baar­heid van onze heden­daag­se omge­ving ver­beeldt. Hiervoor maakt ze gebruik van gevon­den ana­lo­ge en digi­ta­le beel­den die ze her­schept tot com­po­si­ties van uto­pi­sche werelden.

Tijdens haar resi­den­tie zal Frances de moge­lijk­he­den van haar mate­ri­a­len op ver­schil­len­de manie­ren onder­zoe­ken. Hoe het tac­tie­le karak­ter van verf en papier kan samen­wer­ken, tegen­spre­ken of ver­war­ren met dat van heden­daag­se tech­no­lo­gie­ën en tech­nie­ken. Ook het span­nings­veld tus­sen het twee­di­men­si­o­na­le pic­tu­ra­le en drie­di­men­si­o­na­le effec­ten sluit hier­bij aan."

"Landscape, natu­re, and archi­tec­tu­re are recur­ring ele­ments in Frances’ work, which depicts the­mes such as spa­ce and the mal­lea­bi­li­ty of our con­tem­po­ra­ry envi­ron­ment. She the­re­fo­re uses found ana­lo­gue and digi­tal ima­ges, which she recre­a­tes into com­po­si­ti­ons of uto­pi­an worlds.

During her resi­d­en­cy, Frances will explo­re the pos­si­bi­li­ties of her mate­ri­als in various ways. She will exa­mi­ne how the tac­ti­le natu­re of paint and paper can work together with, con­tra­dict, or con­fu­se the natu­re of con­tem­po­ra­ry tech­no­lo­gies and tech­ni­ques. The ten­si­on bet­ween the two-dimen­si­o­nal pic­to­ri­al effect and three-dimen­si­o­nal effects ties in with that as well."

Between memory and form, something nameless stirs 🍂

Visual artist works between sculpture and poetry, and is currently in residence at .leuven, hosted at Cas-co (), and in collaboration with . Her work sits in the space between memory and adulthood, where the past returns unresolved, and melancholy is something to listen to, rather than leave behind. She works with steel, ceramic, glass, lace, and organic materials brought from Morocco. Running through it all is a recurring image: birds without beaks.

Elise tells us: ‘They can’t speak in words, but they are not silent either. They are moving, they are crying, they are communicating in an incomplete way, and I felt very connected to that’

📍📍📍Following their one month residency in Leuven , Apprentices and Master will be opening their exhibition 𝘈 𝘉𝘰𝘥𝘺 𝘛𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘔𝘢𝘺 𝘕𝘰𝘵 𝘌𝘹𝘪𝘴𝘵 on Wednesday June 24th (starting at 18.00)!

Following the opening, the exhibition will be open from Thursday until Sunday (13:00-18:00), 𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐭 𝐂𝐚𝐬-𝐜𝐨 𝐋𝐞𝐮𝐯𝐞𝐧 (Vaartstraat 94)!

He had to work himself through the bars slowly, part by part. First the hands, then the arms and shoulders, then the legs. The head was the hardest. Kunstpodium T brings together four recently graduated artists and one more experienced practitioner. As a group, they spend time learning about each other's work by visiting their respective studios as well as sharing their practices: stories were told, techniques experimented with, food prepared, and they explored what really mattered in their collaboration. ✨

In June they will spend one month working towards a collective presentation, in the framework of the Off the Grid residency at Cas-co

Volgende week, woensdag 24 juni, verwelkomt curator Antony Hudek!

𝐀𝐧𝐭𝐨𝐧𝐲 𝐇𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐤 bezoekt de ateliers van de kunstenaars van en die hier in residentie zijn en gaat in gesprek over hun werk. Daarnaast presenteert Antony zijn eigen curatoriële praktijk tijdens een openbare discussie. De discussie is voor iedereen toegankelijk en begint om 12:00 uur.

Antony Hudek is artis­tiek coör­di­na­tor bij Kunsthal Extra City in Antwerpen. Voorheen was hij direc­teur bij Jan Mot (Brussel), Museum Dhondt-Dhaenens (Deurle) en Objectif Exhibitions (Antwerpen). Als cura­tor werk­te hij bij Tate Liverpool, M HKA (Antwerpen) en Raven Row (Londen). Hij gaf les aan ver­schil­len­de uni­ver­si­tei­ten en kunst­aca­de­mies in het Verenigd Koninkrijk en België, waar­on­der KASK School of Arts (Gent), waar hij lei­ding gaf aan de post­doc­to­ra­le oplei­ding Curatorial Studies. Hij is mede­op­rich­ter en direc­teur van Occasional Papers, een non-pro­fit uit­ge­ve­rij die in 2008 werd opgericht.

In preparation for their working period in the Off the Grid space at Cas-co five artists, brought together by Kunstpodium T, hosted each other in their own spaces, practices and imaginations; stories were told, techniques tried, food prepared and they explored what really mattered in their collaboration. In het kader van het Apprentice/Master-programma wordt een groep pas afgestudeerde kunstenaars gekoppeld aan een gevestigde kunstenaar. In ’s Apprentice/Master-programma koppelen ze pas afgestudeerde kunsttalenten in groepen aan bekende namen in de kunstscene. Ze komen regelmatig samen om kennis en ervaringen uit te wisselen en bezoeken bijvoorbeeld elkaars ateliers. Zo leren ze elkaar en elkaars werk kennen. Samen creëren ze een groepsexpositie bij Cas-co.

Achter de schermen zorgen Cas-co en KunstpodiumT voor een blijvende verbinding tussen de deelnemers. We bieden een veilige en laagdrempelige omgeving waarin kunstenaars met elkaar en het veld in gesprek gaan over alle facetten van het vak. De uitwisseling van kennis tussen startende en ervaren kunstenaars is de drijvende kracht van het programma!

Het 𝐂𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐦 𝐊𝐮𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧 𝐕𝐥𝐚𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧 (𝐂𝐊𝐕) adviseert en ondersteunt diverse actoren uit het veld van de beeldende kunst – waaronder kunstenaars, kunstorganisaties, galerijen, curatoren en kunstcritici – in de zorg voor hun archief.

In deze work­shop ont­dek je hoe je jouw archief kunt behe­ren, inzet­ten als inspi­ra­tie­bron en gebrui­ken als een dyna­misch instru­ment bin­nen je werkproces. Daarom orga­ni­seert CKV work­shops voor kun­ste­naars jong en oud om samen te kij­ken naar de ver­schil­len­de moge­lijk­he­den en inter­pre­ta­tie van je archief bin­nen je artis­tie­ke prak­tijk. Dit doen we aan de hand van enke­le inspi­re­ren­de prak­tijk­voor­beel­den en het mee­ge­bracht archiefmateriaal.

Ter voor­be­rei­ding voor deze work­shop raden we de deel­ne­mers aan om een selec­tie van hun archief­ma­te­ri­aal mee te nemen. Dit kan foto’s, een har­de schijf met docu­men­ta­tie, agenda’s, schets­boe­ken of noti­tie­boek­jes zijn.

Jonas’ performative lunch was followed by a fish-bowl conversation titled 𝘋𝘢𝘺𝘥𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘰𝘨𝘦𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘯𝘦𝘹𝘵 𝘥𝘦𝘤𝘢𝘥𝘦: the working conditions for artistic production are being fundamentally reshaped, and shifting cultural priorities—artists and the organisations that support them—navigate an increasingly fragile ecosystem. Residency programmes, atelier organisations, and development platforms have long sustained artistic practices. Yet today, their mandates and resources are under pressure. What does it mean to “support” artists now? What forms of development remain relevant—and which must be reimagined?

Rather than offering fixed answers, the conversation opens a space for collective speculation: what should we preserve, abandon, or invent? It examines the tension between artistic ambition and institutional precarity, asking how support structures can evolve without reproducing exhaustion, extraction, or inequality.

Rouge Royal is an artistic duo formed by the Belgian artists Stans Vrijsen and Sofia Boubolis. Working across painting, drawing, installation, and archival fragments, their practice moves between material imitation and speculative research. Rather than following a fixed methodology, they investigate how objects hold memory through residue, repetition and recontextualization.

The Performative Office of Living Experimentation (p.o.l.e) set up a mobile, temporary office across multiple locations in and around Cas-co. Their actions unfolded in Leuven’s public spaces, including the banks of the River Dyle, public libraries, and M Leuven.
