Awakening
Wodanseiken | Veluwe
Oil on linen
80 × 140 cm

Returning to a familiar place never means finding the same landscape.

The ancient Wodanseiken have stood here for centuries, yet every season reveals something new. Here, the first light of spring moves through the trees, while the stream catches the changing sky.

A landscape slowly coming back to life.

White Light, Oudegracht
Utrecht, The Netherlands
Oil on linen
50 × 80 cm

Along Utrecht’s historic Oudegracht, light, water and architecture create a constantly shifting rhythm of reflections and shadows.

In White Light, Oudegracht, colour gives way to black, white and grey, allowing light, structure and texture to take the lead. Thick layers of paint give the surface an almost sculptural quality, while expressive lines suggest the bridge, façades, trees and reflections along the canal.

Here, light becomes part of the structure of the painting itself.

Brouwersgracht Nocturne II
Amsterdam, The Netherlands
Oil on linen
60 × 90 cm

After dark, Amsterdam takes on a different rhythm. Along the Brouwersgracht, familiar façades, bridges and reflections dissolve into colour and light.

In Brouwersgracht Nocturne II, I wanted to capture the atmosphere of the canal at night rather than describe every detail. Deep blues and greens meet warm reds, pinks and ochres, while fragments of light move across the water. The city remains recognisable, but the night transforms it.

Spring Reverie
Along the Linge, The Netherlands
Oil on linen
90 × 150 cm

Every spring, the blossoming orchards along the River Linge transform the landscape into a sea of light and colour. It is a fleeting moment that returns each year, yet never looks quite the same.

With Spring Reverie, I wanted to capture more than the beauty of the blossom itself. It is about the quiet joy of spring, the fresh energy of new growth, and the way light drifts through the trees before disappearing again.

Lumière sur Barfleur
Normandy, France
Oil on linen
60 × 100 cm

Barfleur is one of those places I find myself returning to time and time again. Its working harbour, ever-changing light and dramatic Norman skies make every visit different.

This painting began with the brush, but gradually found its way to the palette knife. The rugged character of the harbour seemed to call for a bolder, more direct approach. Rather than capturing every detail, I wanted to evoke the wind, the shifting light and the atmosphere that make this place so unforgettable.

Oude Haven
Oil on Linen
80 × 100 cm

Dordrecht has been painted for centuries, drawn by its historic harbours, monumental architecture and ever-changing reflections on the water.

In Oude Haven, I deliberately left colour behind. Working almost entirely in black, white and grey shifts the attention towards structure, rhythm and light. The boats, reflections and silhouette of the Grote Kerk emerge through expressive lines and thick layers of paint.

Without colour, the city becomes quieter, but perhaps also more intense.

Licht over de Oudegracht
Utrecht
Oil on linen
50 × 75 cm

Utrecht in summer light.
The familiar rhythm of the Oudegracht, the bridge, the boats and the Dom Tower becomes transformed by colour and atmosphere.

In this painting I wanted to capture not so much the city itself, but the warmth of the light moving through it. The palette carries some of the southern influence that has entered my work in recent years, bringing a Mediterranean warmth into a distinctly Dutch scene.

Le ciel de Saint-Marcouf
Oil on Linen
90 × 150 cm

Along the Normandy coast, near the small village of Saint-Marcouf, the landscape is constantly transformed by light, sea and sky. It is a place I have returned to for many years, drawn by its quiet beauty and ever-changing atmosphere.

Rather than painting a single moment, I wanted to capture the feeling of this landscape. The vast sky dominates the composition as sunlight breaks through drifting clouds, casting fleeting reflections across the sea and fields. Here, the horizon is never still, and neither is the light.

Zomer aan de Werf
Oudegracht Utrecht
Oil on linen
70 × 100 cm

Warm southern light has stayed with me. While painting this view of Utrecht’s Oudegracht, I found myself reaching for the Mediterranean palette that has become part of my work. The familiar canals remain unmistakably Dutch, yet colour and light transform the scene into something that feels both remembered and reimagined.
