Makes sense

Clearly this is a joke. Hopefully it doesn't offend anyone or come across as condescending. But no matter what you read online, it’s almost impossible to diagnose an electronic problem just by listening to the amp and certainly impossible to diagnose by reading a description of the way an amp sounds. Most fault conditions can result any one of the symptoms at the top.

In my daily work I see so many amps that have had full revalves, or even new transformers fitted on the strength of a forum or facebook post. Sometimes the comments are from genuinely knowledgeable people who just overstate their own certainty in their remote diagnosis in order to appear a ‘guru’. Often they are by people who are just repeating incorrect information they've heard elsewhere.

When you bring an amp to a good tech, they will use test equipment and logical fault finding processes to find the problem.
