Kunstplaats Vonk and PXL-MAD welcome Tom Poelmans for a new Late Lunch Lecture on Thursday March 21.

Tom Poelmans is a contemporary Belgian artist known for his striking and imaginative artworks that often blur the lines between reality and fantasy. Poelmans’ art encompasses various mediums, including painting, drawing, sculpture, and installation. He is particularly acclaimed for his vibrant and surreal paintings, which feature a mix of surrealistic imagery, bold colors, and intricate details. His work often explores themes of identity, memory, and the subconscious, inviting viewers to immerse themselves in dreamlike landscapes and narratives.

We’re very excited to share this first image of William Ludwig Lutgens’ first ever film production with the support of Kunstplaats Vonk.

In the work /du:m fəˈtiːɡ/, William Ludwig Lutgens explores the state of the modern workers, today’s entrepreneurs and achievement-oriented individuals — their own masters and slaves. Navigating a world of excessive positivity and productivity, the characters appear as burnouts, a zombified species that have lost the will to be themselves in an auto-exploited, overachieving, ‘nothing is impossible’ society. The film reflects on humanity waging war on itself, struggling to find meaningful social and physical connections in the realm of the real.

On Thursday February 22, Kunstplaats Vonk and PXL MAD invite Dennis Tyfus for the first Late Lunch Lecture of 2024.

Dennis Tyfus is a visual artist, radio producer, graphic designer, musician, publisher, no-choice tattoo artist and applause meter. Tyfus’ practice is characterized by an anarchic attitude, both toward the contemporary art world and to established (cultural) imagery. In his oeuvre, everything flows into one another, without a fixed definition, beginning or end. As such, he leans closely to the oeuvre of artists such as Dieter Roth, Mike Kelley, Jim Shaw and Wim T. Schippers.

Welcome!

We’re very happy to welcome Elen Braga to our residency program in 2024!

Elen Braga will create a new video performance in production with Kunstplaats Vonk entitled Flesh, Stone, Iron and Clay.

The work is a study of the gestural movements of the individual or collective body in the rhetoric of power and authority. It is also an exploration of the influence of collective ideologies and beliefs and their impact on the lives and choices of individuals. Flesh, Stone, Iron and Clay explores the pitfalls and stakes of human progress and the interplay of freedom and power.

On Thursday December 14, Kunstplaats Vonk and PXL MAD will go in dialogue with Kati Heck for another Late Lunch Lecture.

Kati Heck (b. 1979, Düsseldorf) is known for her lucid yet enigmatic paintings, in which realism is transformed from a representational category into a fluid process. Her compositions branch into multiple genres – with literature, art history, folklore and lived experience forming simultaneous and indivisible strands. Her practice also incorporates sculpture, film, performance and photography.

Welcome!

On Thursday December 14, Kunstplaats Vonk and PXL-MAD welcome Kati Heck for a new Late Lunch Lecture.
