CROXHAPOX is een experimenteel kunstencentrum en een receptieve ruimte voor actuele kunst te Gent. Het initiatief werd in 1990 in het leven geroepen door Hans van Heirseele en Guido De Bruyn. Aanvankelijk bedoeld als een kleinschalige niet-commerciele tentoonstellingsruimte is CROXHAPOX doorheen de jaren geëvolueerd naar een multidisciplinaire entiteit met een eigen inhoude
lijke visie en een gediversifieerde programmatie. Eind 2017 startte het nieuwe artistieke team olv kunstenaars Anyuta Wiazemsky-Snauwaert en Samira El Khadraoui die een nomadische koers uitwerkten. Sinds 2022 beschikt CROXHAPOX opnieuw over een eigen ruimte en een ontmoetingsplek. Na een interne herbronning vond CROXHAPOX opnieuw haar grond: een artist-run initiatief van en voor kunstenaars, waar kunstenaars zelf de presentatie cureren. De rol van art-director werd opgeheven. Verantwoordelijkheden worden gedeeld gedragen. Het curatorschap van CROXHAPOX is minimaal. Het team aan initiatiefnemers binnen CROXHAPOX kan ten allen tijde wijzigen, het staat open voor impulsen van ‘buitenaf’. CROXHAPOX ontvangt elke vorm van actuele kunst en biedt ook ruimte aan muziek, film, literatuur en poëzie. CROXHAPOX richt zich daarbij niet uitsluitend op jonge of underserved kunstenaars maar streeft ernaar licht te werpen op het belang van het inhoudelijk onderzoek. In die zin biedt CROXHAPOX ruimschoots plaats aan experiment. CROXHAPOX heeft geen commerciële activiteiten, noch vertegenwoordigt het kunstenaars, disciplines of genres. CROXHAPOX is an experimental arts center and receptive space for contemporary art in Ghent. The initiative was founded in 1990 by Hans van Heirseele and Guido De Bruyn. Initially intended as a small-scale non-commercial exhibition space, CROXHAPOX has evolved over the years into a multidisciplinary entity with its own substantive vision and diversified programming. Many artists were part of the Art Team. At the end of 2017, the new artistic team led by artists Anyuta Wiazemsky-Snauwaert and Samira El Khadraoui launched a nomadic trajectory. Since 2022, CROXHAPOX again has its own venue and meeting place. After internal resourcing, CROXHAPOX required a new grounding: an artist-run initiative by and for artists, where artists themselves curate presentations. The role of art director was abolished. Responsibilities are shared. The curatorship of CROXHAPOX is minimal. The team of initiators within CROXHAPOX can change at any time, open to impulses from "outside. CROXHAPOX welcomes any form of contemporary art and also provides space for music, film, poetry and art criticism. In doing so, CROXHAPOX does not focus exclusively on young or underserved artists but strives to shed light on the importance of content. In this sense, CROXHAPOX offers ample room for experimentation. CROXHAPOX has no commercial activities, nor does it represent artists, disciplines or genres.
