Arthur Heyer (1872–1931)

A master of feline elegance, Arthur Heyer captures the quiet nobility and silken softness of Angora cats like few painters of his era.
In this beautifully preserved oil on canvas, a mother cat and her young explore a sunlit patch of grass, rendered with Heyer’s unmistakable precision: luminous white fur, delicately modulated shadows, and that serene, velvety atmosphere that made him internationally admired as “der Katzenmaler.”

François Pompon (1855–1933), Ara (small model) — after Pompon

This version of Pompon’s elegant Ara stands out for its unusual, warm-toned patina, very different from the cooler or darker finishes typically associated with later casts.
A beautiful tribute to Pompon’s refined animalière language, capturing harmony, stillness and form with extraordinary simplicity.

Tonight’s favourite at Antica Namur: a glowing sunset landscape by Paul Lauters, master of 19th-century Belgian romanticism.
This pastel on canvas — an uncommon and precious medium for the era — unfolds like a quiet meditation: rocks, dunes, distant trees, and two small figures beside a reflective pool of evening light.
Available at €4,800.

Lauters left more than artworks behind: Rue Paul Lauters in Brussels still carries the echo of his name.

A luminous discovery at Antica Namur:
Paul Lauters (1806–1876) – Paysage : Soleil couchant
Pastel on canvas (a rare technique for the period) – €4,800

Lauters was one of Belgium’s celebrated 19th-century landscape artists, admired for his atmospheric horizons and delicate command of light. His legacy remains anchored in the cityscape of Brussels, where Rue Paul Lauters bears his name.

Antica Namur keeps delivering surprises.
This Wagner bust by Alfredo Pina (c. 1920), cast by AG Arthur Goldschneider, stopped me in my tracks — a whirlwind of emotion and energy captured in bronze. Every fold, every tension line carries the drama of the composer.

This is why art fairs matter: unexpected encounters with rare pieces that stay with you long after you walk away.

Among today’s highlights at Antica Namur: this intimate bronze Biches by Maximilien Louis Fiot, cast by Susse Frères.
Fiot captures a fleeting moment in nature — one doe resting, the other gently leaning forward, alert to the world.
It’s a sculpture that breathes: light, movement, and the delicate tension of wildlife.
