Ze is er! Onze tentoonstelling Bouw aan Morgen, van materiaal tot sociaal is vanaf nu te zien in de Melkfabriek in Eindhoven als onderdeel van de .

Lucas de Man neemt je in 4 minuten mee door het geheel. Maar kom vooral kijken, we staan er nog de hele Dutch Design Week en daarna tot en met 31 oktober op aanvraag!

Sneak Preview Possible Landscapes: Zeeklei!

Vandaag stond Ruben Bus namens Biobased Creations met een work in progress installatie in Oosterwold tijdens het inspirerende event Oosterwold in Overvloed, georganiseerd door Karavaan der Liefde.

Onze installatie Possible Landscapes: Zeeklei is nog volop in ontwikkeling, maar we konden het niet laten om alvast een eerste glimp te delen. Dank aan iedereen die kwam kijken, meedenkt, en bijdraagt aan dit bijzondere proces! 💚

We werken door aan de installatie en… zien je graag in het najaar op de Dutch Design Week waar de volledige versie wordt gepresenteerd!

Our installation Building as a Landscape was in good shape at BOKRIJK Vaklab during the Heritage Day at the end of April.
That resulted in some great conversations about the future of building and landscape and how we can very well fall back on and learn from age-old techniques! It was also great and inspiring to see which other makers are working on this and to exchange ideas with them.

Onze installatie Building as a Landscape stond er goed bij, bij BOKRIJK Vaklab, tijdens de Erfgoeddag eind april.
Dat leverde weer fijne gesprekken op over de toekomst van bouwen en landschap en hoe we daarvoor heel goed kunnen teruggrijpen op en leren van eeuwenoude technieken! Ook mooi en inspirerend om te zien welke andere makers hiermee aan de slag zijn en met hen uit te wisselen.

Wees welkom op 26 en 27 april tijdens het opendeurweekend in het kasteel in Bokrijk (BE). Tijdens dit weekend is iedereen met een hart voor vakmanschap welkom om deze unieke locatie te komen bewonderen.

Het weekend staat in teken van vakmanschap, haar rol in het verleden, heden en vooral de toekomst. Ontdek unieke objecten bij makersmarkt Métier Marché, volg een live demonstratie van vakmanschap zoals letterkappen, leembouw of goudsmeden, doe een workshop of laat je verwonderen door een van de expo’s, waaronder onze installatie Building as a Landscape.

This week Queen Máxima paid a working visit to biobased construction projects in Brabant. At the Barli housing factory in Uden she received an explanation from Jan Willem van de Groep about different materials and chains, at the expo we previously made for Building Balance.

Deze week bracht Koningin Máxima een werkbezoek aan biobased bouwprojecten in Brabant. Bij de woningfabriek van Barli in Uden kreeg ze van Jan Willem van de Groep uitleg over verschillende materialen en ketens, bij de expo die wij eerder maakten voor Building Balance.

📣Biobased Creations zoekt stagiairs vanaf de zomer op het gebied van Programmering, Storytelling en Ontwerp voor de expo Bouwen aan Nederland!

Een tentoonstelling met daarin verhalen, materialen, mock-ups en maquetteinstallaties rond duurzame, met name biobased en geobased, innovaties in (interieur)bouw en infra voor vandaag en morgen. Deze wordt voor het eerste gepresenteerd in oktober, op Dutch Design Week 2025. Naast de expo ontwikkelen we ook een programma met lezingen, bijeenkomsten, workshops en ontmoetingen. Vanaf augustus gaan we richting de uitvoering en willen we het team versterken met enthousiaste stagiairs. We are looking for interns from August, focussing on Programming, Storytelling and Design. You will contribute to the expo Building The Netherlands.

An exhibition with stories, materials, mock-ups and model installations around sustainable, especially biobased and geobased, innovations in (interior) construction and infrastructure for today and tomorrow. Which will be presented at DDW25. In addition to the expo, we also develop a program with lectures, meetings, workshops and encounters. From August onwards we are working towards the realization of the expo and are looking for enthusiastic interns to join the team. Check out the vacancies through the link in bio!

We zijn bezig met het derde grote Possible Landscapes traject: na het veengebied in Brabant en de Hoge zandgronden in de Achterhoek zijn we neergestreken op de Flevolandse zeeklei. We onderzoeken de komende maanden verschillende vraagstukken rond Oosterwold, een bijzonder gebied tussen Almere en Zeewolde dat wordt ontwikkeld via organische gebiedsontwikkeling en waar veel ruimte is voor stadslandbouw voor en door de bewoners.

Voor het eerste deel van de verbeelding hebben we samengewerkt met Atelier NL. Zij maakten bordjes van de Oosterwoldse klei die samen een kaartweergave vormen van het gebied. Het onderliggende tafelkleed toont de waterkaart en de natuurkaart. In de klei zijn door middel van kleur en structuur verschillende onderwerpen zichtbaar gemaakt, bijvoorbeeld bodemdaling en de verschillende bodemsoorten zavel, zware klei en lichte klei.

De volgende stap is het uitwerken van de nieuwe perspectieven.

We are working on the third major Possible Landscapes project: after the peat area in Brabant and the High Sandy Soils in the Achterhoek, we have settled on the Flevoland sea clay. In the coming months, we will investigate various issues around Oosterwold, a special area between Almere and Zeewolde that is being developed through organic area development and where there is plenty of room for urban agriculture for and by the residents.

For the first part of the imagination, we worked together with Atelier NL. They made plates from the Oosterwold clay that together form a map representation of the area. The underlying tablecloth shows the water map and the nature map. Various subjects have been made visible in the clay by means of colour and structure, for example soil subsidence and the different soil types of loam, heavy clay and light clay.

Te zien! De Week van de Circulaire Economie komt eraan en daarom presenteren we Possible Landscapes Vernat Veengebied - de Peel in de entreehal van Provinciehuis Noord-Brabant in Den Bosch. De installatie vertelt verhalen over de vernatting van het landschap en de kansen die dit biedt voor o.a. biodiversiteit, minder emissies en nieuwe verdienmodellen voor boeren. Wat dacht je van paludicultuur: het verbouwen van lisdodde of riet, in te zetten als bouwmateriaal? En wist je dat er wel 40 verschillende eetbare gewassen zijn die fantastisch groeien op een natte bodem? Bijvoorbeeld waterspinazie, watermunt en Chinese waterkastanje. Kom de installatie ervaren en luister de audioverhalen om meer te weten te komen.

On display! The Circular Economy Week is coming up, and we present Possible Landscapes Rewetted peatland - de Peel in the entrance hall of the Provincial House of Noord-Brabant in Den Bosch. The installation tells stories about the rewetting of the landscape and the opportunities this offers for biodiversity, reduced emissions and new revenue models for farmers. What do you think of paludiculture: growing bulrush or reed, to be used as building material? And did you know there are 40 different edible crops that grow fantastically on wet soil? For example, water spinach, water mint and Chinese water chestnut. Check out the installation and learn more.

🏆The Growing Pavilion - our first pavilion made from mycelium and other natural materials was awarded a Paving the Way Prize by crQlr Awards from Japan!

✨A quote from the judge:
The Growing Pavilion effectively demonstrates the potential and advantages of biomaterials while promoting a conversation about the need for the building industry—and beyond—to adopt more sustainable and regenerative practices.

This project takes a comprehensive approach to engage critically with various materials, production systems, communities, and audiences by showcasing a full-scale, 1:1 case study. Designing and collaborating with biomaterials should not be viewed as a limitation if the growth process is carefully considered. The Growing Pavilion serves as an excellent example of this.

Vacancy: Researcher/Editor for Biobased Materials Research in the Stuttgart Region (DE)

Are you interested in sustainable building materials and methods?
For a research project focussing on biobased building materials in the Stuttgart region, we are looking for someone with a journalistic background who can conduct research, interview producers, and compile the gathered information into a database and create profiles on the key players.
This project is a collaboration with the Internationale Bauausstellung 2027 StadtRegion Stuttgart (IBA’27).

We are looking for someone who:
Has prior knowledge of biobased/geobased building materials
Can process large amounts of information
Can write for a broad audience
Can conduct and edit interviews

What we ask of you:
Availability from end of February until end of May, schedule to be discussed (2-3 days per week)
Background in written journalism or alike
Proficient in German and English (spoken and written)
Preferably located in the Stuttgart region or in The Netherlands
