{Caroline Sarneel — Hof van Eeuwen}

This work, together with four additional works by Caroline Sarneel, is presented in the group exhibition MET HUID EN HAAR, on view tomorrow at the Herkenrode Refugie huis in Hasselt.

Within the context of the exhibition, the work is situated in relation to the architecture and layered history of the site.

Opening: 1 August, 7 pm. All are welcome.

Dit werk is, samen met vier andere werken van Caroline Sarneel, opgenomen in de groepstentoonstelling MET HUID EN HAAR, die vanaf 1 augustus te zien is in het Refugiehuis van Herkenrode (Hasselt).

In de context van de tentoonstelling ontvouwt het werk zich in relatie tot de architectuur en de historische gelaagdheid van de plek.

{Burning Woman}

One of the works presented in the exhibition Met Huid en Haar is the video performance Burning Woman by Belgian-Turkish artist Gülşah Ayla Bayrak. In this performance, Bayrak literally sets herself on fire, using her own body as the central medium of the work. The act of burning becomes a physical intervention and a moment of transition.

Drawing from personal experiences of migration, loss, and cultural identity, Bayrak explores how memories and histories become inscribed in the body. Burning Woman brings together vulnerability and resistance in an intense reflection on change and self-transformation.

Een van de werken in de tentoonstelling Met Huid en Haar is de videoperformance Burning Woman van de Belgisch-Turkse kunstenaar Gülşah Ayla Bayrak. In deze performance zet Bayrak zichzelf letterlijk in brand, waarbij haar lichaam het centrale medium van het werk vormt. Het vuur verschijnt als een ingreep op het lichaam en als een moment van overgang.

Vertrekkend vanuit persoonlijke ervaringen rond migratie, verlies en culturele identiteit onderzoekt Bayrak hoe herinneringen en geschiedenissen zich in het lichaam kunnen vastzetten. Burning Woman brengt kwetsbaarheid en weerstand samen in een intens beeld van verandering en zelftransformatie.

Europe Knows Nothing About the Orient presents the artistic practice of Gülşah Ayla Bayrak through questions of representation, identity, and perception.

Curated by Hale Albayrak, the exhibition reflects on the ways the notion of the “Orient” has been constructed and represented. Rather than offering fixed definitions, it creates space for dialogue, complexity, and multiple perspectives, inviting visitors to reconsider how culture is seen and understood.

Samengesteld door Hale Albayrak onderzoekt de tentoonstelling hoe het begrip “het Oosten” door de tijd heen is gevormd en verbeeld. In plaats van vaststaande definities te bevestigen, biedt de tentoonstelling ruimte voor dialoog, gelaagdheid en uiteenlopende perspectieven, en nodigt zij bezoekers uit om cultuur en representatie opnieuw te beschouwen.

On July 4th, the exhibition Zwartberg opens at Cinema Victoria.

The title refers to a place intimately connected to Genk’s mining history, while raising broader questions about labour, migration, landscape, community, and memory. For this exhibition, 21 artists bring together a diverse range of works, including paintings, sculptures, performances, and poetry slam.

Rather than presenting a single narrative, the exhibition starts from the multiple meanings the place and its name still evoke today. New perspectives emerge from personal memories, collective histories, and the (in)visible landscape.

Opening: July 4, Cinema Victoria.

Op 4 juli opent in Cinema Victoria de tentoonstelling Zwartberg.

De titel verwijst naar een plek die verbonden is met de geschiedenis van de mijnbouw in Genk, maar roept tegelijk bredere vragen op over arbeid, migratie, landschap, gemeenschap en herinnering. Voor deze tentoonstelling brengen 21 kunstenaars uiteenlopende werken samen, waaronder schilderijen, sculpturen, performances en poetry slam.

De tentoonstelling vertrekt niet vanuit één verhaal over Zwartberg, maar vanuit de verschillende betekenissen die de naam vandaag nog draagt. Tussen persoonlijke herinneringen en collectieve geschiedenissen, tussen het (on)zichtbare landschap en wat daarin achterblijft, ontstaan nieuwe verbanden en perspectieven.

Met trots delen we dat Too blue, too deep, we rise, a talisman ignites van Mounir Eddib werd opgenomen in de collectie van het Bonnefantenmuseum.
Het wandkleed werd verrijkt door de bijdragen van Öznur Özturk, Amaryllis Beckx, Yasmin Gheisari, Millo Op de Beeck, Robin Kuypers, Hélène Manca, Morena Pascale en Hunter Claes. De keramische kralen die het werk rijkelijk bekleden, werden gevormd en gebakken tijdens gezamenlijke momenten van ontmoeting binnen The Building.
We feliciteren alle betrokkenen met deze mooie erkenning.

We are proud to share that Too blue, too deep, we rise, a talisman ignites by Mounir Eddib has been acquired by the Bonnefanten Museum collection.
The tapestry was enriched through the contributions of Öznur, Amaryllis, Yasmin, Millo, Robin, Hélène, Morena and Hunter. The ceramic beads that richly adorn the work were shaped and fired during shared moments of gathering and exchange at The Building.
We warmly congratulate everyone involved on this wonderful recognition.
