We can't wait to welcome you to Pluriversal Worlds in a Grain of Sand, opening on
December 8th at 7 pm in Zebra, Ghent. In the meantime, we are introducing the participating artists.

Artist Luc De Roeck creates paintings, drawings, photographs, installations, objects, sentences, doggerels… He travelled extensively to the Four Corners area in the United States and to Morocco.

His work has been exhibited in numerous art galleries in Brussels and Aalst. He is also known for showing his artwork at unconventional locations such as a train station, a store of Turkish rugs, the prison cells of an old police station, a museum hall with objects of archer guilds, a hair salon, a backroom of a café turned into a little cinema.

In Pluriversal Worlds in a Grain of Sand he will present two paintings inspired by his visits to the Navajo reservation where he immersed himself in the Navajo heritage.

Tomorrow Pluriversal Worlds in a Grain of Sand opens at 7pm at Zebra. Today we are introducing one of the artists: Le Phi Long.

Artist Le Phi Long investigates the consequences of industrialization for local ancestral communities in Vietnam and Asia, the relationship between human beings and nature in general, and the consequences of colonization and of the Vietnam War.

In Pluriversal Worlds in a Grain of Sand he will present sketches from his visit to Chau Doc, Vietnam and Kampong Luong, Cambodia, and a video of his experimental work with yellow fabric in Tonle Sap lake.

The next artist we are showcasing to day is Maureen Duru.

Maureen Duru studies cultural practices around food and how they circulate in cultures from one generation to another, linking food with identity construction through kinship, spiritual beliefs, and community membership. She investigates traditional patterns, food and gender relations, the connection between food and rituals, the relationship between tradition and innovation, pre-colonial practices, and the influence of colonialism, and how food today is used to create an imaginary homeland for people in diaspora.

Maureen Duru established the Food Bridge, a non-profit organization with projects promoting indigenous food cultures and entrepreneurship. https://www.thefoodbridge.org/ Through its Food Heritage project, it is helping connect farmers in Nigeria using traditional methods with premium markets in the country and in the African diaspora.

For Pluriversal Worlds in a Grain of Sand she will create an installation of food utensils used across cultures.

Rolf A. Kluenter is a German-born, Shanghai-based visual artist. His works include paintings on blackened Nepalese handmade paper and objects made of that paper, works on canvas and photography. His films incorporate different artistic disciplines, drawing from and commenting on film, performance, photography, music, theatre, painting, and sculpture, resulting in a poetic visual language.

In Pluriversal Worlds in a Grain of Sand he will show artwork on Nepalese paper with Sanskrit inscriptions and references to other languages, pointing towards coexisting Pluriversal worlds.

You already saw the work of Camiel Van Breedam in our exhibition in Pilar and you will find more in Pluriversal Worlds in a Grain of Sand, opening at Zebra, Ghent on December 8th at 7 pm.

Camiel Van Breedam is active since the 1950s in a variety of media: assemblages, collages, reliefs, objects, sculptures, constructions, and environments.
That diversity/multiplicity is also noticeable in his choice of materials: wood, paper and metals are the basic materials. But they are materials that have been used before, that have been manipulated (remainders, surpluses, waste) and have acquired a patina in the process, materials that already “had a life of their own”.
