Meet William Ludwig Lutgens,

William Ludwig Lutgens (1991) is a Belgian painter who explores the complexity of the human ego, as well as the pervasive influence of images, media, and representations on our society and their impact on our perceptions, experiences, and relationships. He seeks to weave these elements together with dreamlike imagery, fantasies, desires, and symbolic meanings.
In 2017, William Ludwig Lutgens completed the postgraduate residency programme at HISK in Ghent and has since received several awards, including the Gaver Prize for Painting in 2020. He participated in the Nanji Residency at the Seoul Museum of Art in 2019 and collaborated with FLACC from 2018 to 2020. Lutgens was also involved in other residencies, including Kokela, Sala D’art Jove, and Z33 Culture Platform. Recent solo exhibitions were held at Expositieruimte 38CC, Galerij Kant, De Garage/Museum Hof van Busleyden, and PLUS-ONE Gallery. His work is exhibited internationally and represented in collections such as De Bruin-Heijn, SMAK Ghent, and the Flemish Government.

Meet Stief DeSmet,

Stief DeSmet (1973), lives and works in Bachte-Maria-Leerne, B. and Minot, Fr. ) In his work and life Stief DeSmet is preoccupied by the ambiguous relationship between nature and culture and the manipulation of nature by human hands and vice versa. The artist seems to be constantly caught between his actual existence in a hectic, consumption-based modern day society and a longing for a sublime, utopian natural state. At the same time he is critical and in a subtle way he recognises the relativity of this longing for an idyllic fantasia with a serious dose of irony. By manipulating iconic images he counters possible significations, adds a stratum of significance or deludes the spectator. His studio practice isn't focused on one medium, instead he switches easily between painting and sculpting, video, performance and installation art. After living in Ghent and L.A. for several years he retreated to the peaceful village of Bachte-Maria- Leerne, a few kilometers south of Ghent near the idyllic Leie river, where he works and lives with his wife and two children, sheep, chickens and a dog in a former farm. There he has several studiospaces with different specifications where you can find him at work, depending the mood of the day. He also lives and works in the former village school of Minot in Burgundy, Fr. DeSmet's work is found in private collections in Belgium, The Netherlands, France, U.S.A., Switserland and in public spaces in Belgium,The Netherlands and France.

Meet Martha Onderwater,

My art is a conversation; the material is my partner. The human body inspires my sculptures, paintings, and drawings. I
strive to portray the abstract qualities of the body within the realm of realism. It is important to have strength and elegance in lines,
to have boldness in shape. The work should speak for itself. The various materials I use interact with and build upon each other.
The quick tempo of drawing and painting allows me the freedom I seek when carving stone. The steadfastness of stone provides
space for contemplation, I forego when drawing or painting. To appreciate and use the advantages of both is the greatest source of my work.

Meet Manon Soetens,

Manon Soetens explores the relationship between humans and nature. The people she paints are real: she meets them in everyday life or draws them from memories of her childhood. The figures she depicts are in a state of intense concentration, evoked by beauty, nature, listening to or playing music, art, a child at play… She captures this unique, vulnerable moment. She removes them from their surroundings and places them in a distinctive landscape. These landscapes are inspired by her long-distance walks, mainly in Scotland and England. In this way, a world of stillness emerges, offering a counterspace to our stimulus-rich reality.
Her work invites slow looking. Not to explain, but to feel: what lingers when words disappear?
