Today we meet from DG COMP! 🩵
About yourself: Mornings or Nights?
Ideally, I would lean towards selecting the « morning, » but coming from Estonia, where daylight is scarce for nine months a year, I find myself saying « night. »
Tell us more about your DG!
To be effective, competition requires companies to act independently while facing pressure from their competitors. In pursuit of this goal, DG COMP oversees the enforcement of competition rules to maintain uninterrupted competition within the single EU market. DG COMP’s main objective is to safeguard consumer welfare and enhance the competitiveness of the EU.
What does an exciting day in your traineeship look like?
I am a member of the unit responsible for overseeing mergers. My primary responsibilities involve assisting case teams in operational units for major merger cases across different business sectors.
As a Blue Book trainee, my main duties include studying competitive dynamics within a specific business sector and to organise and participate in meetings and interviews with different market participants. This allows the Commission to make well-informed decisions on whether certain mergers are likely to significantly impede effective competition in the EU. In my daily tasks, I also contribute to the development of the Commission’s competition policy. Within the close-knit community of trainees at DG COMP, it has become a tradition for us to gather for lunches or enjoy drinks together after office hours. My Blue Book traineeship has also provided me with the opportunity to participate in a charity running race, marking my first experience in such an event.
