This weekend we celebrate the restart of the season and gather at danscentrumjette for a weekend with Roxane Huilmand, who created this space 30 years ago. Looking forward to seeing new and familiar faces, dancing and eating together.

Dance phrasing

Dance phrasing is a concept and practice related to grouping consecutive movements in time and space, both in their composition and performance. A dance phrase is a sequence of movements that carries meaning, especially when forming part of a choreography. Dance phrasing refers to the expressive shaping of dance: the shaping of movement through space and architecture, time, qualities, dynamics and other variables.

Roxane Huilmand

After her studies in Rotterdam, Roxane joined Rosas (Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker) from 1984 to 1989. From 1985 to 1989 she was a choreographer-member of Kaaitheater, creating Muurwerk, Tanz mit Männer and Capricieuse, which toured in Belgium, Europe and Japan. She continued creating pieces with ASHKA and on demand in France and Austria, including Hic et Nunc, Virelay and Bonjour Gérard. Roxane danced in films by Wolfgang Kolb, including Muurwerk, Hoppla!, Capricieuse and Aix ’89. Since 1990, she has taught numerous workshops at festivals, schools and organisations worldwide, including Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival, Mimeschool Amsterdam and CDC Toulouse.
Between 1991 and 1994 she directed the repertory of Rosas, and from 1996 she taught at P.A.R.T.S., RITCS, H.I.D. and with various companies. Since 1996, Roxane has been the director of danscentrumjette, where she continues to teach, dance and create.

Workshop Announcement!

Don't miss our upcoming professional workshop with the wonderful Lali Ayguade.
She will give a full-time workshop as the last part of our summer program - as we transition to the new season.

From gravity to Lightness

7th to 11th of September
10h to 17h

Paying attention to the base of our body we will focus our attention on how we use our feet to inform the way we dance and the way we can yield to the floor to support ourselves through the flow of movement. Drawing power from our feet and legs we will enable the rest of the body to express itself freely and experience continuous movement. The energy in our body never stops, even where there is stillness.

Lali Ayguadé

Lali Ayguadé (Barcelona, 1980) trained at the Conservatori del Liceu and the Institut del Teatre in Barcelona before continuing her studies at PARTS (Belgium).
Throughout her career, she has worked with internationally renowned artists and companies including Akram Khan, Roberto Olivan, Hofesh Shechter, Marcos Morau / La Veronal, Baró d’Evel and Carmen Mehnert’s Publik Eye Company.
Since 2013, Lali has directed her own company, developing a distinctive choreographic language through site-specific works, street performances and stage productions that blur the boundaries between reality and imagination. Her creations include Kokoro (2015), iU an Mi, Hidden, Runa and Inestable. She has also collaborated with artists such as Joana Gomila, Guilhem Chatir, Joan Ramon Graell and Akira Yoshida, and has created works for companies including Tanz Bielefeld, the Korean National Contemporary Dance Company, Bodhi Project Salzburg and MIR Dance Company. Her work has received wide recognition, including nominations at the London
Critics’ Awards and the Barcelona Critics’ Awards, as well as major distinctions such as the Premis Butaca for Hidden and the Max Awards for Runa, which received Best Choreography and Best Female Performer. Lali also starred in Juanjo Giménez’s Academy Award-nominated short film Timecode, winner of the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival, the Goya Award and the Gaudí Award. Alongside her artistic career, she regularly teaches workshops internationally, sharing the physical language and creative research developed through her choreographic practice.

Youth STEAM Academy: Where Technology Meets Art

From 11 to 20 November 2025, we took part in the Erasmus+ Youth Exchange Youth STEAM Academy: Where Technology Meets Art in Câmpina, Romania.

Six participants from Belgium joined young people from Romania, Turkey, Bulgaria, Italy and Lithuania for ten days of workshops, creative activities, teamwork and intercultural exchange.

Throughout the project, we explored the connection between art and technology discovering different ways of expressing ideas through creativity and collaboration. Beyond the workshops, the exchange was also an opportunity to meet young people from different countries, share experiences and learn from one another.

We are grateful to have been part of this Erasmus+ experience and to bring back new ideas, skills and memories from Câmpina!

Navigating wild ocean frames the body as a responsive vessel moving through unpredictability, intensity, and constant change. Rather than seeking control, the practice develops sensitivity to shifting forces, momentum, resistance, and instability, allowing movement to emerge through adaptation. Attention sharpens and widens, enabling rapid negotiation between risk and support, effort and release. The body learns to yield, reorient, and reorganize in real time, cultivating resilience within turbulence. In this state, navigation becomes an embodied intelligence grounded in trust, presence, and continuous adjustment.

Tijen Lawton

Tijen’s main body of works spans over a period of over 30 years as a professional dance artist, shifting between performing, teaching, mentoring, coaching, researching and co-creating
in diverse artistic and academic contexts. Artist and educator, she delves into the body as an archive, merging artistic practice and teaching. Through research and commitment to the unexplainable in movement, she cultivates heightened senses and ignites creative potential. Tijen studied at Arts Educational School London, The Place LCDS London, The Juilliard School New York. For 15 years, she was a constant presence in all of Jan Lauwers & Needcompany’s work performing, creating and touring worldwide. Also performing, touring & collaborating with Caterina & Carlotta Sagna, Mauro Paccagnella & Wooshing Machine, Pierre Droulers, Erika Zueneli, As Palavras / Cie Claudio Bernardo, Rebecca Lenaerts, Greet Vissers & Kunstz, Mokhallad Rasem & het Toneelhuis, Marco Torrice, Lisaboa Houbrechts, Andrew Graham, laGeste.

Applications are open for dcj training modules 2026/27!

Our formation program runs for 37 weeks (approximately 9 months) throughout the academic year. Participants will have access to over 600 hours of training and workshops, along with 300 hours of shared studio time.

In addition, selected participants will have the opportunity to take part in various projects at danscentrumjette. These include artistic creations, integration into professional contexts, research, explorations of dance and theatre history, applied performance practices, and focuses on arts education and/or socio-cultural projects.

The selection process is composed of two rounds: The first round begins with your CV, motivation letter and a video (maximum 3 minutes), which should be sent to: [email protected].

We are happy to welcome Luc Sanou, dancer, performer, choreographer and teacher from Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.
A graduate of the International Dance School Irène Tassembedo (EDIT), Luc has developed his practice through extensive international training and collaborations with artists including Serge Aimé Coulibaly, Mickaël Phelippeau, James Carles, Lucinda Silda, Wandjiru Kamuyu and many others.
He has performed in numerous international festivals and productions across Africa and Europe, including the Festival d’Avignon, FIDO Festival (Burkina Faso), Festival du Film Francophone d’Angoulême and the Marrakech Dance Biennale.
Alongside his work as a performer and choreographer, Luc teaches traditional African dance, Afro-contemporary dance, modern dance and creative movement at EDIT. His classes combine technical precision, musicality, physical engagement and a deep connection to movement traditions and contemporary practices.
