iMAL Art Centre for Digital Cultures and Technology iMAL is an art center for digital cultures and technology, located in the center of Brussels.

Our international position as pioneer in this field since 20+ years was reinforced in 2020 with the opening of our new venue, including a large exhibition space, an expanded state-of-the-art Fablab, residency spaces and more. We support artistic and creative practices using (digital) technologies as their medium. Next to providing support for artists in their experimentation-, research- and produc

tion processes, iMAL is hosting art exhibitions, conferences, performances. Furthermore we also facilitate critical reflection, research and debates around the current and future challenges of our technological society, by stimulating cross-pollinations between art and technology. With our wide range of activities and elaborated mediation program, we aim to empower people and inspire the next generations to actively participate in today's and future digital cultures. Our Fablab encourages social inclusion and innovation towards sustainable development within the local community of Molenbeek. Concert alert ๐Ÿšจ ๐Ÿšจ ๐Ÿšจ ๐Ÿšจ

29th May will be an evening dedicated to live coding.
We are delighted to count on the greatest Alex MacLean
We start at 5 pm with a talk followed by a concert-dinner at 7pm.
On that evening we will also have the amazing and she will also have her dedicated post of course!

Together and on the weekend following (30 and 31 May) they will get deep into pattern thinking and how it can ground contemporary creative technology in ancient arts and crafts.
To do this they will be working with glue guns, motors, lollypop sticks and code examples, to explore how complex patterns of sound and movement can be made from simple parts.
They will introduce the free, web-based strudel software for this, exploring its possibilities for live coding music, while connecting it with other pattern-based codes like knitting and weaving patterns.

Check our programme and register fast!!! Seats are limited.

If you are joining both, the talk/performance/dinner + workshop, we recommend to select the combo ticket in our website!

๐Ÿ“… Friday 29.05.2026: panel discussion and concert-dinner with Agathe & Alex - in harmony with Peter Sattler .sttlr for the meal

๐Ÿ“… Saturday 30 + Sunday 31.05.2026: masterclass

During the workshop, Agathe & Alex will introduce the web-based livecoding platform strudel (https://strudel.cc), exploring its possibilities for music, while connecting it with other pattern-based codes like knitting and weaving patterns. No experience with code, music, or textiles necessary!

๐Ÿงถ ALEX MCLEAN (Sheffield) is a musician, software artist and researcher, who co-founded the TOPLAP live coding and Algorave algorithmic dance movements, and instigated the free/open source TidalCycles and Strudel live coding environments.

๐Ÿงถ AGATHE HERROU (Leuven), known musically as th4, is a French livecoder, developer and mathematician based in Leuven. Her performances typically consist in from-scratch improvisations, with an accent on dark, melancholic melodies and textures.

As we had announced, the menu of this new Slow Cookery 2026 will combine masterclasses, performances, talks and dinners, with introductory workshops in our Fablab.

So here we go with the first introductory workshop alert
โ— โ—โ—โ—โ—โ—

: Learning electronics and building Object Communication & Automation
with Louanne Deltenre .d

This hands-on workshop introduces participants to Object-Oriented Programming and electronics using the ESP32 microcontroller. Over four Saturdays, attendees progress from setting up the development environment and understanding embedded code to prototyping with sensors and actuators like LEDs and servo motors. Bridging between physical hardware and digital logic, the idea is to empower participants to build cause-and-effect interactions and simple automation scenarios.

The latter half of the workshop shifts toward connectivity and collaboration, introducing Wi-Fi communication and Node-RED for networked systems. Participants will learn how to integrate their individual devices into a shared interface, culminating in a final collective project. By the end, the group will collaboratively design a responsive environment or visual installation, emphasizing a "learning through making" philosophy that balances technical skills with creative experimentation.

The workshop takes place over 4 Saturdays in May, from 10:00 to 18:00.
Saturday 9 + 16 + 23 + 30.05.2026

Seats are limited, so I would reserve a spot now, if I were you.

The menu will combine masterclasses (led by a duo composed of one international and one Belgium-based artist), performances, talks and dinners.

Names confirmed:
Alex McLean Agathe Herrou aka Thomas Teurlai Clarice Calvo-Pinsolle
and more to be announced...

A long weekend dedicated to livecoding, a masterclass where participants will build electromagnetic microphones using components salvaged from domestic appliances to explore the invisible sounds of everyday machines.

โž• the addition this year of introductory workshops in our super :
- an introduction to electronics and the Arduino physical computing platform
- and an introduction to Fusion 360, a CAD software to design objects for digital fabrication.

Read on for a quick preview of the programme in the ๐Ÿ“Ž of our bio.

More info & registration links will follow soon!

And do not forget to save the dates!

Weโ€™re still cooking the programme of talks & performances but you will read and taste it soon. We can already tell you that Peter Sattler will be back with a delicious meal... .sttlr
