For over 50 years, artists, cultural and social organisations, and even metro users have brought life to Brussels’ metro stations.

That is why Brussels Mobility and STIB, in collaboration with SUBLAB – manager of Qartier, the cultural space located in the Bourse–Grand-Place premetro station – are inviting adults, whether individuals or collectives, working in urban art, photography, illustration, graphic design or related fields, to submit an original creation on the theme of The Imaginary Metro.

« Espèces Compagnes » explores the various layers of this underground world, inhabited and traversed daily by subway riders. The exhibition examines the coexistence of all forms of matter and life that arise from this environment: machines, fossils, sediments, living species, and the traces they leave behind.

The exhibition, featuring works by nine student artists, will be open to the public from May 29, 2026, until September 10, 2026.

Looking back at Victor Novak’s immersive performance at Espace Qartier, presented as part of the DAILY exhibition, curated by François de Coninck.

For one evening, the metro space was transformed into a suspended sonic experience, blending violin, electronic textures, and fragments of everyday life. Inspired by urban flows, repetitive gestures, and the sounds of the subway, the performance created a moment of pause within constant movement.

Through deep bass, immersive melodies, and sound material drawn from reality itself, Victor Novak proposed another way of inhabiting public space ; more sensitive, attentive, and collective.
