al arts, performing arts, film, music, literature and debate so as to stimulate an exchange of ideas. Newly commissioned projects and artistic residencies hold a central place in the programme that engenders a unique interaction between heritage and art.

Chapters of Celebration has been selected for Het TheaterFestival 2026.
Every year, an independent jury picks the most striking, socially relevant and innovative productions of the past season. Our EUROPALIA ESPAÑA creation, commissioned by EUROPALIA and DE SINGEL, made the cut, in what the jury called an exceptionally rich year for dance.
Departing from the Iberian theme La Folia, director Benjamin Abel Meirhaeghe, composer Wouter Deltour and the B’Rock Orchestra build an evening-long ritual that moves from baroque to rave. Spanish dancers and musicians share the floor with international guests, with the audience seated around it and, by the end, dancing on it.
A celebration of the festive body through time.

European Commissioner Glen Micallef and Thomas De Béthune from EU4BE visited EUROPALIA to learn about our work and explore EUROPALIA ESPAÑA. general Director Christian Salez and Artistic Director Dirk Vermaelen shared insights about the festival's legacy, the programs for young people and schools, and special projects like Art2gether. Commissioner Micallef's message resonated strongly with us: culture matters, and we must invest in it – especially now.
The visit included a tour of "Luz y Sombra: Goya and Spanish Realism" at Bozar – a fascinating exhibition that brings Goya's powerful work into dialogue with 70 artists from the 18th century to today.
