📣 𝐄𝐱𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐝 𝐜𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐀𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐠

The Antiquities Wing will remain closed to the public until at least the end of 2026. As a result, the galleries of Egypt, Greece, Rome, Near East & Iran and Art of the Islamic World are still inaccessible.

👀 The much-needed renovations are in full swing, requiring a great deal of work: carefully relocating valuable art objects, securing and labelling them correctly, and of course storing them, prior to the actual demolition and reconstruction! Take a look behind the scenes to see how it’s all done.

✨ In the meantime, you can still visit other galleries in the museum, including the Feathers & Textiles gallery, which is back open to the public. And this autumn, we have one of the most significant exhibitions of contemporary Inuit art ever organised in Europe in store for you!

Op 12, 13 en 14 juni 2026 nemen de archeologen van het museum deel aan de Urban Archaeology Days, een niet te missen evenement voor iedereen met interesse in geschiedenis en erfgoed.

Voor deze gelegenheid nodigen onze onderzoeksteams je uit om een kijkje te nemen achter de schermen van de stadsarcheologie in Brussel en de bevindingen van hun onderzoek te ontdekken. Tal van activiteiten laten je kennismaken met bijzondere archeologische sites en geven je een unieke inkijk in de uitdagingen van de opgravingen die de afgelopen jaren zijn uitgevoerd.

𝗢𝗽 𝗵𝗲𝘁 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗺𝗮
✅ Lezing: presentatie van de archeologische opgravingen uitgevoerd in de Abdij van Vorst
✅ Terreinbezoek: ontdekking van de site van het priorijcomplex van Rood-Klooster
✅ Stedelijke route: verkenning van de Koninklijke Wijk doorheen haar geschiedenis
✅ Geleide wandeling: in het spoor van de Zenne, in het hart van het verborgen verleden van de stad

Parallel hieraan presenteert het Riolenmuseum de tentoonstelling Back on Senne. Deze belicht onder meer de archeologische opgravingen die door het museum werden uitgevoerd op de site van Parking 58 en werpt een nieuw licht op de centrale rol van de rivier in de ontwikkeling van Brussel.

[NL] Volgende week van 9 tot en met 13 juni brengt het New European Bauhaus Festival flink wat leven in de brouwerij in het museum!

Toegang is volledig gratis! Wens je op deze dagen het museum zelf te bezoeken? Ook dat kan dan uitzonderlijk gratis!

Zowel in als rond het museum zal er heel wat te beleven zijn: workshops voor kinderen en volwassenen, geleide rondleidingen, boeiende lezingen, muziek en dans uit alle hoeken van Europa, betoverende kunstinstallaties, filmvertoningen en nog zoveel meer! Dit Europese project wordt dinsdagavond 9 juni feestelijk geopend door Ursula von der Leyen en António Costa, Voorzitters van de Europese Commissie en de Europese Raad.

160 years Japan-Belgium 🇯🇵 🤝🇧🇪
𝟏𝟖𝟔𝟔-𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔

To celebrate the friendship and partnership between Japan and Belgium, a few of our cherished museum pieces are heading to Japan for an exhibition at the Kokugakuin University Museum. As a federal museum, we are delighted to contribute in this way to cultural diplomacy between our country and Japan!

👀 Amongst other items, this magnificent vase and document box – once generous gifts from Emperor Meiji at the opening of the first exhibition in the Japanese Tower in Brussels – will be on loan. The gold-coloured document box, finished in kinji lacquer, features both flat and relief lacquer techniques and is adorned with flowers from all four seasons. It took no less than 45 months for artisan craftsmen from various disciplines to create this box.

🧐 This cobalt-blue porcelain vase, on the other hand, is the work of Imperial Household artist Miyagawa (Makuzu) Kōzan. It features a monochrome design of chrysanthemums, rendered using the characteristic shading technique (bokashi) with which Kōzan was able to suggest volume and depth.

💡 After 160 years, this and a dozen other masterpieces are leaving Belgium for the first time to be exhibited to the Japanese public!
