If you’ve joined us at Listen Festival over the last few years, there is a chance that you’ve been engulfed by the work of Studio Phare in one of our many locations. Beau Van Hoydonck & make up Studio Phare, a lighting design studio based in Antwerp that has been responsible for the lighting design of the festival for many years.

Together with fritz-kola. we’re highlighting their indispensable work, which is often overlooked when we talk about a great party. We met up with them at their atelier located in Archipel along the Schelde in Antwerp for a conversation about light but, peculiarly, also about shade and smoke.

Collaborating with a wide range of producers including DBBD, Luca Eck, Only Fire, MCR-T, Stef De Haan, X- Coast, DJ G2G, GDA, Victoria, and Vieze A***k, she has a catalog designed for high-impact dance floors and forward-thinking audiences. gabbereleganza aka Alberto Guerrini, first heard hardcore at 11 through the giant sound system of Luna Park, an amusement fair that came to his hometown of Bergamo. He found it "both charming and disturbing", and it became a turning point for him. Soon after, he bought a rave tape of Dutch and Italian hardcore at a local market and started going to clubs in his area.

In 2011 he turned that fascination into a blog documenting the European hardcore scene. It grew into a cultural platform at the crossroads of music, fashion and aesthetic research. Today he is a DJ, publisher, founder of the Berlin-based label Never Sleep ™️ and the force behind the Hakke Show.

His mission: show the scene as it is, beyond the clichés of sweaty faces and dodgy politics. Fanzines, flyers, merch, DIY aesthetics: the visual side of hardcore deserves as much attention as the music.

This year he plays at 🅒➊➋ during Listen Festival.
