The BRIFF kicked off yesterday in Brussels with the opening screening of Notre Salut by Emmanuel Marre !

Until 12 September, the Brussels International Film Festival unfolds across the city with a rich programme of Belgian and international films, premieres, three competitions, special screenings, open air screenings and much more.

Julie Van Houtte, from the BRIFF team, tells us more about this 9th edition and everything that brings the festival to life.

Beyond the screenings, the BRIFF continues across Brussels, notably at the BRIFF Village on Place De Brouckère, where audiences can meet, exchange and enjoy the festival atmosphere.

Because at the BRIFF, cinema doesn’t stop when the credits roll !

A look back at yesterday’s BRIFF press conference at Brucity, marking the official presentation of the festival’s 9th edition !

From 4 to 12 September, the Brussels International Film Festival returns for nine days of cinema in the heart of the capital. Belgian and international films, emerging voices, established filmmakers and stories from across the world come together through a programme built around discovery, encounters and the diversity of contemporary cinema.

Three competitions form the core of the festival, alongside sections dedicated to Belgian cinema, film heritage, environmental issues and new European voices. BRIFF also opens the experience beyond the screening rooms, with activities for younger audiences and families, meetings, conversations and moments to gather around cinema.

Across UGC De Brouckère, Cinema Galeries and Cinema Palace, and with the BRIFF Village at Place De Brouckère and open-air screenings at Mont des Arts, the festival spreads throughout central Brussels.
Nine days to watch, discover, meet and experience cinema differently.

Midis-Minimes is entering the final days of its 40th edition !

Since the beginning of summer, the festival has been bringing music to lunch breaks in the heart of Brussels, with a concert every day at 12.15 pm. Early music, Romantic repertoire, piano, voice, chamber music and orchestral works have followed one another throughout the weeks, creating a dialogue between periods, works and performers.

Until August 28, Bozar’s Salle M hosts the final concerts of this edition. A few more opportunities to experience one of Brussels’ summer music highlights and discover repertoire spanning centuries, during a lunchtime break and for young and old alike.

HOLIDAY TIP #12

For this final Holiday Tip of the summer, head to Mons and step into the singular world of Maison Losseau.

With Rien en moi n’obéit, Belgian artist Dominique Thirion inaugurates HORS-TEXTE, a new exhibition cycle dedicated to the connections between contemporary art and literature. Bringing together a selection of recent paintings, several of which are being shown for the first time, the exhibition unfolds through coincidences, stories, words and unexpected images.

Within the literary and architectural universe of Maison Losseau, Dominique Thirion’s work enters into dialogue with the memory of the place and with figures such as Arthur Rimbaud, Marcel Moreau and Claire Lejeune. Painting, poetry and storytelling come together in a free and deeply personal exploration of language, memory and creation.

An ideal cultural escape to Mons, where heritage, literature and contemporary art meet.

This summer, leave the city behind and follow the Meuse for an open-air cultural escape !

Art-sur-Meuse brings contemporary art into the landscapes of the Meuse Valley, with permanent works created in direct dialogue with the river, its villages and its natural environment.

On 18 August, the House of European History invites you to join Europe on the Move, a 45-minute tour exploring the movements that have shaped the continent: migrations that transformed communities, journeys that opened new horizons and innovations in transport that brought Europe closer together.

Led in English by a member of the museum team, the tour highlights a selection of objects and stories designed to spark curiosity, reflection and conversation.
